double-teaming are weather team with dale and chris justus. morning. dale: anytime you watch a big storm likely have been seen in texas and the mississippi valley area over the weekend, how impacts your area, will he go north? south? power right through us? so we have been watching that. we do haha followed, cool northeasterly breeze is across the area. a 14 mile-per-hour breeze and 48 with rain. as a take a look at live super doppler 4 hd, this area of yellow is where some of the heavier thunderstorms are occurring from saluda county to the columbia area. also to the west, a line of thunderstorms. across the upstate and mountains, just scattered showers and a few areas with heavy downpours. we continue to be in direct

lead to ponding on roads and creeks and streams coming out of their banks. in western north carolina, wind advisories out and also for the piedmont, too. as we continue to watch the system unfolds, let's go to chris justus and get an idea of what area may be impacted the most. chris: the concern is for your morning commute this morning. into the afternoon, it shifts east of charlotte. you can see a couple of lines towards the west. the latest computer model showing that line of heavy rainfall pushing into our area between now and 8:30 from asheville to greenville. after that, this line begins to energize as to get to the afternoon hours. around 12:00, potential big storm's east of charlotte from i-77 down to columbia. this area really will be

at home, periods of rain and gusty wind as the low moves through. a look at the highest that for severe weather includes eastern cherokee, union and newberry county's. from charlotte to columbia, but it is a bull's-eye across raleigh and down toward kingston and portions of fayetteville. they could see some very strong storms. just looking at the tornado threat, this area means there is a 10% chance of an ef-2 or stronger tornado. raleigh will be an area we watch closely. you can see the light shining on the street. this aerial be under the gun for strong storms later today. allyson: thank you. speaking of all that rain wyff , news 4's aly myles is on the road in asheville. geoff: aly, what are you seeing this morning? aly: we had a pretty flawless drive from greenville to

there are less than a hundred detainees at the facility. some would be shipped to other countries others eventually housed in a facility on u.s. soil. >> i think a lot of the american public are worried about terrorism and in their mind, the notion of having terrorists held in the united states rather than in some distant place can be scary. but part of my message to the american people here is we are already holding a bunch of really dangerous terrorists here in the united states. geoff: a hard sell the president acknowledges, but he points to a number of other terrorists currently secured in federal prisons. the plan doesn't specify exactly where in the united states the remaining detainees would go, but south carolina is on the list of potential sites. one of the most vocal against the decision to close gitmo is south carolina senator tim scott. here is the south carolina location where the department of defense is looking to move the 56 or so detainees who remain,

it's not far from the charleston international airport and just off interstate 526. >> if you bring 30 to 60 enemy combatants, the world's worst terrorists, you are also tracking their friends and their supporters so you are putting a , target on the back of a community. you are also going to have to upgrade or upfit a medium security facility, which will cost upwards of 100, plus million dollars, but you cant -- cannot take care of the national security concerns around that community. geoff: governor nikki haley says she will fight the move to bring gitmo detainees to south carolina, as well. another look at the weather with rain coming down. it has been coming down for quite a while. allyson: it is affecting travel. mark lyons is traveling to mile

in just a moment, we can show you where the real impact is this morning. for all these areas in greenwood high wind warnings from western north carolina to haywood and south of newberry through columbia and farther to the south, wind advisories continue today. here is an expanded look at live super doppler 4 hd. severe thunderstorm warnings make out in the i-20 corridor. instead of the upstate, looks like it is more the midlands getting hammered by the event so far. we will watch that line of thunderstorms near atlanta and see how that goes the next couple of hours. looks like after 8:00, nine :00, things will improve. we will see a few scattered showers but most of the stormy weather will pass through. 62 in abbeville, 48 greenville and in asheville.

heroes join forces with the annual battle of the badges blood drive in asheville. geoff: going head-to-head. wyff news 4's aly myles joins us live from the blood donation center with more. aly: good morning. we are at the asheville blood donation center here is on edgewood road in asheville, but we are talking about battle of the badges. as you can see from the trophy, one of the winners last year. talk about what we have right here. >> this is our esteemed trophy we pass along from year-to-year. we were able to put that in our trophy room, very small, but something we get to pass along and a token of what we are able to do for such a good cause to give blood. we will be passing this along, hopefully not, and we get to keep it here. it has gone back-and-forth

>> now, your live super doppler 4 hd forecast. dale: good morning. let's check it out and see what is going on. 55 degrees in laurens with a light breeze out of the southeast at five. brain going on. south of the upstate, it is much warmer in the upstate with 40's. fog and clouds over the upstate. the stormy weather that we expected or are expecting with this system is tracking farther to the south. we will show you that in a moment. wind advisories for western north carolina, flash flood watches in the green for the mountains and upstate for today. any heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding. the heaviest of the thunderstorm activity from this big low is tracking south of the i-20 core

those are severe storm warning issued. that area of red represents a tornado watch area in georgia. all of that will sweep south of i 20 through the lower part of south carolina this morning. we will see a few thunderstorms from this line just north of atlanta come across now and 8:00. looks like the bulk of the stormy one is tracking to the south. we are seeing some pretty good downpours from asheville back into northern greenville and spartanburg county. action in western north carolina and into raven county. by 945 -- 9:45, 10:00, select the bulk of this has worked its way to the east with scattered showers. cold conditions into the mountains, it will fire up snow along the tennessee-north carolina border early tomorrow morning. that may be interesting to see

carolina and it changes to reign as the morning goes on. anderson at 56, greenville that 48 like asheville and hendersonville. warming up in the piedmont and breezy. the warm rain jacket will feel good. after this system clears, we will have sunny weather, very breezy tomorrow and cool and we enjoyed nice sunny weather for the weekend. cold mornings ahead the next couple of mornings. upper 50's and low 60's drop tonight into the 30's tomorrow morning. asheville will see temperatures go from upper 50's this afternoon, dropping quickly this evening and overnight, flurries of snow. tomorrow, has a 42 to 51 in the 50's for friday and saturday in the upstate and 40's in the mountains. a nice rebound temperature by sunday with upper 50's to low 60's. allyson: thank you. the moment strong storms shut down power in an alabama town tuesday night, was caught on camera.

an alabama gas station, as the rain, wind, and lightning come down. the lights flicker and then go out for good. dothan fire officials say power went out last night for more than 3,000 customers. emergency officials in dothan can't confirm whether it was a tornado that touched or just high winds. so far, no damage to homes and buildings and no injuries have been reported. geoff: also severe storms , brought high winds and tornados to parts of florida tuesday, as much of the south was under severe watches and warnings. strong winds and rain were caught on camera at this hotel near the airport in pensacola, florida. much of northwest florida remains under a tornado watch. motorists are being asked to stay off of the roads, if possible. you can see the driving wind going sideways. forecasters say ththregion could see gusts of 60 to 80 miles per hour, as well as golfball sized hail. allyson: thousands of people lost power, as storms rip through central louisiana. take a look at what the wind did to this business in prairieville.

and in other areas south and east of baton rouge, the wind downed power lines in several areas. the electric company, entergy, says more than 13,000 homes and businesses have lost power. geoff: waterspouts over louisiana lake, so check out these huge waterspouts. the line of strong storms passed through the area, which cause traffic to come to a standstill on a nearby highway. the line produced a tornado warning which occurred during the time of the waterspouts. similar spots were spotted over the mississippi river as well.

dale: we have rain, 48 degrees in greenville. it stayed in the 40's all day yesterday and the wind made it feel so much cooler. still have that action this morning. fog in spartanburg. various skycam's picking up rain. the heaviest of the thunderstorm activity is to the south. good news, not for the south but for us. severe thunderstorm warnings breaking out there on the georgia-south carolina border and a tornado watch for parts of southern georgia. that will go to the south. temperatures today reach low 60's for the ride home. a few showers this afternoon with windy conditions. we are expecting the asheville and hendersonville area to go from the 40's to the 60's with a few scattered showers left in the afternoon. most of this will impact the

concerned and windy conditions of afternoon and getting colder tonight. geoff: thank you. in this morning's buzz, a group was presenting a prototype of the new solar energy electric bike. allyson: a start up company released the bike yesterday and they say all the power needed for it to function comes from solar panels covering the front wheel and the writer's -- rider's pedaling. they had to include the whole trailer solar panels back in the 1980's but this one can compensate for low light conditions. geoff: you run out of energy but you get a little extra. allyson: but you are peddling to power it? dale: may be you lose speed and the solar power keeps it going? geoff: like a motorized bike. allyson: got it. geoff: there you have it. to this morning's headlines. nikole: third time is the charm

you good downpours in pickens county, anderson and hart county. also, northeastern georgia has a line of thunderstorms from atlanta to greenville. a lot of this is impacting areas south of the i-20 quarter -- corridor. let's go to meteorologist chris justus. these are flash flood watches and wind advisories and warnings out for the area. let's find out how the storm will impact the southeast. chris: we have the latest computer model and it shows the heavy rainfall over us and will continue to push east. another round moves in between 7:00 and 9:00. it could have heavy rain and gusty wind with it. as it pushes eastbound through the afternoon, it energizes east of charlotte and that area from greensboro, they it phil, raleigh, down to myrtle beach, they could see severe weather.
