lee's head kwaurks. a nonprofit organization purchased the house and surrounding land in 2015. we talked with jim height zer and garry addelman about the trust. >> the history is the most important to gettysburg if not the whole center battle of the war. this is this headquarters. >> this is where robert e. lee was where he made crucial decisions in the three days of that battle that literally determined the outcome of the property. >> this property when we bought it looked nothing like it does right now. it was a hotel complex with a restaurant attached to it. so it was envision of 40 or 50 rooms, 1950-styled motel, with a restaurant saloon attached to it. all surrounding this building that i'm standing in which was lee's headquarters. lee's headquarters was hidden in plain sight. we had to get raid of the 20th century and that was tear down, move out all the debris that encompass the hotel or motel to be more precise, the restaurant. and then we had to restore. we had to tear out something like 15 different structures, including a swimming pool and gift shopts, those type of things. this thing

and as jim said, we are very fortunate to have with us keith lee, acclaimed and author of the league of many of you may have been when he gave a presentation on that a couple of years ago now, right? yeah. in the league of wives, he tells inspiring story of the efforts of the wives of our p.o.w.s in vietnam to bring their husbands home in the course of writing that book, keith became close friends with of these amazing women i had the honor of attending the gala dinner held here last year to, mark the 50th anniversary of the white house honoring our return p.o.w.s and i had a chance to speak with a few of those p.o.w. wives. and although they were 50 years older than they were when they were working to bring their husbands home, they are just as formidable and strong as they were in the early 1970s. very impressive group of women. but tonight we are fortunate to hear heath's inaugural talk about her newest book just published today, a beautiful biography of, our own first lady pat nixon. i know many people asked you why, mrs. nixon, you know, there's already an outstanding biography

in 2015 of what jim baker and lee hamilton wrote looking at essentially the same problem. the problem hasn't really changed from what they were writing back then, nine years ago. there's a bottom up or inside-out part of this which is to find a way, find a formula for genuinely federal, decentralized, maybe confederal iraq that keeps the borders as a whole but lets the individual groups really have a local autonomy. sunnis fighting to get isis out of anbar have some confidence when isis is out they won't be given instructions from the shia militias or anybody else. it would be their part of iraq, much as kurds feel erbil is their part of iraq. it's bottom up inside-out. and then there's the part that involves the regional allies. for iraq, syria libya it is going to take a commitment by the united states, russia, saudi arabia iran. somehow there's going to have to be a formula where those powers can sit around a table and come up with agreements that they are prepared to back up. i think those are the two elements of how you would make this work in iraq. i think it's going
