i want to bring in msnb contributor, jared bernstein, jumping off point of where kristen left off withhe potential conon formation of jack lew. jack lew would be a new player in this mix, because we have got the same old players. do you think that he could help break the chemistry experiment? >> well, he has been playing in the same sand box for a while. he has been negotiating deals since he was the director of the office of management and budget which is of course, at the heart of fiscal deals before he became the president's chief of staff. he has a long history of closing pretty complicated fiscal deals including things like the budget control act which is essentially running the government right now. so, i don't think that having jack in the mix hurts the prospects at all. if anything, he is a tough negotiator and he has been successful in the past. what is going to have to happen here, unless you want to start talking about pretty crazy solutions like the trillion dollar coin, what has to happen is compromise, much like i believe the president has laid out. if we want to do anoth

i'm joined now by msnb contributor jared bernstein and adviser joe biden and aaron blake.today but totally works for this segment. walk us through these new job numbers. month to month it is just a snapshot. when you look at the big picture, what can we learn from this? >> the labor market is looking pretty good and one important thing in this jobs report every segment of the economy is adding jobs. you had the low-skilled workers who work in the fast food restaurants and bars and restaurant chains and that sector added 53,000 jobs last month. you also had high-skilled workers who work in professional and business services. those white collar workers. they add e49,000 jobs last year. health care added 39,000 jobs last month. you even saw an improvement for the unemployment rate of people who completed high school but don't have a college degree, their unemployment rate has fallen to 4.5% today. the question is not is this a good jobs report is this happening because of donald trump or despite of donald trump? >> you are saying your 17-year-old daughter turned to you last n

msnb jared bernstein former economic adviser to vice president joe biden and cnbc zachary, who is alsoentlemen, to both of you for being with me on a saturday. let's dig into it here. first of all, what might these numbers have looked like without the looming threat of the sequester? >> i don't think you see much of the sequester in these numbers. remember, these numbers are from february and the sequester went into effect march 1st. now, most economists believe that the sequester is going to subtract about 0.5% off of gdp growth over the rest of the year and numerous hundreds of thousands of jobs estimates range between 500,000 and a million. so, i think the relevance of the sequester here is that this pretty strong report from yesterday kind of shows you what is at stake. if the economy does take a hit from those automatic spending cuts. we need a lot more reports like this or stronger if we're going to achieve a recovery that really feels like a recovery to working people who, thus far, haven't really benefitted that much from the growth. so, the danger here of the sequester is that

and katie fang, nbc legal contributor and also washington correspondent for the "new york times" and msnb contributor. katie, could mcgahn face any legal implications for not testifying? >> i mean, don mcgahn should testify. he is being sent a message from congress, if not told, you need to show up. don mcgahn doesn't work as an employee of the white house anymore. he really should go and testify. he's represented by counsel who should advise him on what he should or should not do. but weather don mcgahn thinks mcgahn's interpretation could be an interpretation. we as lawyers look at facts and look at evidence, and we can basically spin it the way that we want to. but donald trump p to me that's black and white. it clearly shows that don mcgahn was sent as an emissary for donald trump to get rid of robert mueller, and he did not want robert mueller to do his job. >> and there was a point when mcgahn was considering publicly protecting trump from obstruction of justice claims, but then refused after the mueller report was released? what are you hearing? >> i think donald trump is caught in

co complex detail and language about the charges but the take-away is that his former hedge fund, msnb capital, is alleged to have made significant misrepresentations and omissions to investors and in pitching itself to prospective investors. it involves lying about what money the fund actually had, what the performance was like, also allegations that shkreli in his role as ceo of another biotech company back then, fraudulently induced the company to actually fund legal settlements with investors in his hedge funds, that ponzi scheme that robert capers was alluding to. shkreli was ousted as ceo of this company back in the fall of 2014. retrofin has issued a statement saying the following, that following shkreli's departure, the company authorized an independent investigation of mr. shkreli's conduct, publicly disclosed its findings and has fully cooperated with the government investigations into mr. shkreli. until we have had the opportunity to review the charges against mr. shkreli, we cannot comment any further. thomas, the next layer that a lot of wall street analysts and observers
