eli wiesel spoke to us so profoundly about what it meant -- elie wiesel spoke to us so profouvendly about what it meant, and about the future. while the holocaust memorial and museum is about something that happened in the past, it is a memorial and reminder to us about ridding our societies of these kinds of attitudes. so how ironic, our ironic that this person, this individual would go into that museum with hate in his heart, a gun in his hand, and kill this beautiful man, stephen johns who really gave his life, he guarded others with his life. i'd like to take a moment and pay special tribute to stephen johns, whose life was true crewelly taken yesterday. he was known to his colleagues as a soft-spoken, gentle giant. stephen loved his hometown football team, the redskins, and loved to travel across the united states. sad to say, well, it was a happy moment for him, but sad in such a short time he married and moved to temple hills, maryland, just 10 minutes away from his mother. he died in the line of duty, doing his job to protect those who came to the united states memorial museum. we

it is not only that i know elie wiesel, and my grandfather's brother was part of the units that first liberated that camp. i have talked about this before in the united states, perhaps not in germany. the shock for this very young man who could not have been more than 19 or 20 at the time was such that he ended up when he returned having a very difficult time readjusting to civilian life. and it was a memory that burned in him for quite some time. and that was something that i learned about as a young person. and for me to be able to come and reflect on this very difficult history, and to not only reflect on the dangers of when people's are in conflict and not acknowledging a common humanity, but also to celebrate how out of that tragedy you now have a unified europe, a germany that is a very close ally of israel, and the possibilities of reconciliation and forgiveness and hope. all those things i think are part of why this visit is very important to me. in terms of climate change, ultimately the world is going to need targets that it can meet. it cannot be general or vague approaches

fiction that i want to read this summer, i hope to read some others but i definitely want to read elie wiesela mad desire to dance because he's such a terrific writer and what he writes is so important. i was really moved by what he said a few weeks ago when he spoke openly about having lost his foundation so much money in the bernard madoff uproar fiasco. he was so smart and he's lost millions, but this is a book, obviously, that continues but he's been writing so many years about the holocaust so i want to get through this book, if i can, this summer. those are the five summers i plan on reading this summer. i hope to get through them all and then start on some more. >> you're a busy man. where do you do your reading and how do you find time to do it? >> i try to do a little bit before i go asleep at night. i try to read on weekends. i just gee out on my deck in the backyard and relax especially if the weather is good. you know, whenever you can. i am a busy guy. a lot of a whole lot of time to do fun reading, but you make time, and it's important, and i really appreciate books. >> wolf bli
