joining me now is john wiley, a former airbus pilot with 19,000 hours of service and i also writes for aviation weekly as a contributing editor. 19,000 hours is a lot of experience. before we got to that, we want to take you through what possibly happened, where the blaen took off from, where it was supposed to go and what have you. but have you ever been involved in a mishap mid air, not collision, because mishap or a close call? >> i've had the windshield fall a couple time, kre. it will get your blood going. in fact, about only three or four weeks ago, i was climbing out of a small field in my own personal aircraft and fortunately we were all on frequency, somebody was calling coming into the pattern and i happened to look up and sure enough to the left, i'm pretty close to another airplane. >> i have a lot of friends who with pilots and from time to time they have to go back for retraining and they're completely getted to whatever time they have to go back for training and what have you because they need to be focused, focused, focused. they all take this very seriously. >> the pro

john wiley, thank you so much. an eyewitness joining us on the phone.nold steven, were you in the air during this collision? >> i was staying at the "w" hotel which is right on the water. i was out on the balcony. we heard a loud crash. looked out and saw a very small cessna sort of plane. looked like half the wing was missing. it was corkscrewing into the river. saw the helicopter drop like a rock into the hudson. probably six minutes later there were boats surrounding the two collision areas looking for, i guess, any survivors. survivors. >> that is very consistent with what other eyewitnesses mentioned too. when they saw the small aircraft. it looked as one of the wings had been sheered off as you describe in the cork skewing. once the two collided. within minutes you sought search-and-rescue team, trying to find any survivors. we understand from the new york fire department one person has been rescued. did you happen to see anything that appeared to be a rescue taking place? pulling any one out of the water? >> absolutely. we saw, quyeah, six or sev
