now as jeff hager reports, 48- year-old john thompson remains behind bars, facing a series of charges. >> reporter: from his advantage point on his front porch across the street, neighbors rushed to pull every-year-old bill thompson from the burning home. >> we sat in this chair until they put him in the ambulance. >> thompson's son john crawled out of the smoke-filled home first, after they kicked in the door. then he attempted to run away. investigators would later learn his son had become an unwelcomed visitor and after months of trashing the family's home, his father had decided to evict him. >> had enough, i guess words were exchanged that night. john thompson went out on reports set trash on fire. >> residents in the area
