receive this award today, and i would like to especially thank my colleague and good friend, laura garcia castro for recognizing and nominating me. i've been teaching at spring valley school -- science school for 18 years now and i feel very fortunate to be a part of a wonderful school with a great staff. we all place a high emphasis on making sure our students are aware of the importance of intelligent behaviors and critical thinking. students learn that there's a lot of things they can do to become smarter, such as asking lots of questions, being open minded, and admitting mistakes. they also know that because everyone is different, that we may not all like the same things or learn the same way which means that if one way doesn't work for us in understanding something, we might want to approach it a different way. thus, staying persistent and not giving up, as well as finding alternatives will eventually lead our students to a path of self-discovery and enlightenment. in saying this, it is also our job as educators to guide them along this rewarding path. and i can probably say that my leagues
