and dorchester, talbott counties, queen anne's you'll be getting a band of rain over the next half houring these other pockets of so orange and yellow. those are areas of some very heavy rain that are falling here just to the south of washington. right near alexandria to mount rnon rht along the tidal potomac, and western charles county, eastern stafford, and northeastern county of spotsylvania, this is continuing to move to the north. rain in loudoun county and frederick county in maryland. temperatures around t region are in the 60s to near 70. all these counties under a flash flood warning, meaning we do have flooding under way right now in these counties in northern virginia, the distct, and much of maryland and montgomery and prince george's anne arundel, calvert and st. mary's. rain fall totals have been almo four inches in southern maryland. we've had over an inch and a half in washington. the temperatures will hold steady while this rain comes down hard. also a tornado watch throughout stern virginia, the district of columbia, and much of maryland and the eastern shore until 1:0

mary's and portions of western dorchester down into portions of virginia. a little bit more on this. bernadette joins me. >> these numbers will start going up. the next round is on its way. we've had over nine inches of rain. the airport alone we've seen those numbers. over 7 1/2 at the naval acady. salisbury will be on the way up. now the thing is, there are a lot of warnings going on. flash flood warnings have been extended. you see all of those counties. this has been extended until 12:15 a.m. in addition to that, still officially a tornado watch if -- in effect through 7:00 tonight. that severe weather threat at been the biggest problem. underneath we're seeing coastal flood warnings. that's because the winds have been sustained at 20 to 25 miles an hour. this turned around to the northwest. the band shifted to the east, cranked our wind around to the now. i don't think that's the trend. it will not push the water back out tomorrow. we'll keep you updated. mary? >> wjz has been tracking the flooding conditions all day in baltimore county. derek valcourt

in another e-mail, wally from dorchester us, with all the recent publicity regarding patronage of the state work force and elsewhere, i notice all of you have supporters carrying signs with your campaign. as governor, will you hire political supporters, and if not, how will you stand out the process elsewhere? >> people should be hired according to the abilities and experience and what they contribute -- not by campaign contributions they have contributed to the person making the decisions. unfortunately, this is what we are seeing in the case of the patronage scandal at the probation department, and there have been a lot of revelations that have commoe in, because the legislature has enormous power over this patronage tool they have, but this raises the broader issue of ethics, and it is such a commentary on the failure of ethics reform that there is a scandal taking place right under the noses of the ethics committee as the bill was written, and i think it is a statement of how beacon hill is not working that we are getting reforms that are not addressing the issues. >> the boston h
