i'm at sneath lane in rolling wood by 280. you can see sneath lane here behind me blocked off.the entrances into the neighborhood are blocked off to the public. we just talked to a woman trying to get in to see of had her home is still standing. >> i would hope all our neighbors and friends are safe. but we have elderly neighbors that were worried about -- want to make sure that everybody is okay. >> this is the best look we can get at that neighborhood. live overhead from chopper 5, no one again is being allowed in because right now, this neighborhood is being called a crime scene though police out here can't tell me why exactly it's been dubbed that. the neighborhood is also still dangerous because fires are still burning in the area. we have seen several fire trucks go in. police cars go in. the fire trucks going in appear to be water tenders so they will project still be putting out spot fires that have been burning throughout the night. here is the scene from chopper 5 last night. a huge fireball burning in this neighborhood surrounding glenview, skyline and san bruno aven

the fire inside this area of the peninsula, the general perimeter starting at sneath lane and looping around claremont drive and glenview drive. we begin our team coverage with anne makovec in the san bruno neighborhood where it all began. anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i'm off of sneath lane and 280, one of several intersections blocked off this morning by local police officers and the california highway patrol. as you can see here behind me, they have flare patterns, directing all traffic away from the area. in fact, every entrance into this neighborhood that has been destroyed is blocked off. we drove around the perimeter here near crestmore canyon this morning. and we were turned away at every turn. taking a live look now from chopper 5. above the area. and you can see several fires still burning. people are kept away from the area because it's a dangerous scene. one officer said it's being considered a crime scene, as well. but he can't tell me why exactly it's been dubbed that. the neighborhood again still dangerous as the fire fires continue to burn. rescue crew

ground zero is at the intersection of sneath lane. parts of neighborhood are still smoldering which is hampering search and rescue efforts. claudine wong is giving us an update from san bruno. >> reporter: we are at the command post down the street from where the fire area is. you can see all the activity here, this is as close to the fire area as they are allowing us. you can see a lot of firefighters beyond the tree there dozens of fire trucks parked and ready to go. we seen backhoes move their way in. as they go down glenn view, the street you are looking at if you continue to go down, there you go down a sleep cliff on the right that's where you find the crater where this began. we see white smoke rising from this neighborhood. an indication this is not over yet. a white smoke. a good sign. different from the smoke yesterday when the inferno raged through neighborhood. i talked to a gentlemen who says he remembers it like some of the people we talked to, house started shaking and he heard the explosions, he looked outside and saw

records show 1600 feet of aging sewer pipes were replaced in mave 2008 on earl avenue from sneath lane to glenview drive. the work crossed the gas pipeline at the location of the blast and while the method crews used can cause ground shake and disrupt nearby soil and o-pg&e says inspections after the work revealed no problems. >>> well for some of the fire victims tonight is their first night back in their home following that devastating fire and explosion. , but as kutv's diane guerazzi reports, the wait continues for others. >> reporter: hundreds of fire victims gathered this morning, picking up wristbands and parking permits that they hoped would be their tickets back to the homes that they fled thursday night. the deafening explosion caught chirmaberro during dinner. as we burned on his arms and forehead as he scrambled over his backyard fence. >> the wind blowing the hot air is what happened, it was so hot and we were pretty close to the explosion. >> reporter: chirmaberro's home on glenview drive is three houses from the center of the explosion. >> it's still up. that is one good
