the small town of west orange, texas, in a state of shock after the star quarterback of the local highootball team collapsed and died during last night's game. his name was reginald garrett. he was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed on the team's sideline shortly after throwing hiss second touchdown pass of the game. after collapsing, he died just a short time later. hundreds of fans, teammates, friends, filled the hospital's waiting room waiting to hear word about him, and they didn't get the word they were hoping to get, which was that he was going to be okay. susan courtney is supervisor for the baptist hospital of southeast texas where he was taken. she is joining us now by phone. ms. courtney, i appreciate your being here. we have you here not just in your capacity as working for the hospital, but you can give us an idea. everybody in town knew this kid. >> yes, everybody did. he was a very popular child. he was very sweet, very well mannered. he was an a student. he had collegebound -- he already had scholarships lined up. every child liked him. he was nice to everyone. wa

the west coast, and that, fortunately, you still remain cool. what has changed is that some areas of the east have cooled off. now, summer weather continues down along the gulf into texaseven the desert areas aren't as hot as it was. so, here's how what we're going to be dealing with throughout the next couple days. temperatures for the most part are going to continue to be on the cooler side with our trough here in the west. heavy rain event. flooding is going to continue today up through the ozarks. as far as the wet weather in the west goes, there's not a lot of it. northern nevada up through the northern rockies has some wet weather. what caught my attention was at the high peaks, right outside of alcove, we're mixing in with some snow this morning. that's how cold it is at the high elevations, but on interstate 80, you should be just fine. also, showers continue near yakima and interstate 90 may see a shower or two. temperatures are chilly in the 50s. and for daytime highs today, we're only going to do 60s and 70s in many locations. that'son to a little bit of the heat, 97 and sunny. and showers and 59 in elko, nevada. friday forecast coming up. >> bill, thank you
