jim angle reports it's not stopping the democratic leaders from making a big push. >> reporter: democratic leaders such as nancy pelosi, harry reid and van hollen are leading charge on freeze on foreclosures to protect the little guy from the big bad banks. other democrats are joining in. >> we need a combination of a freeze potentially. also, we need to sit down with the banking industry, because it's absolutely imperative we keep people in their homes. >> reporter: several state attorneys general are also pushing a freeze. >> seeking moratorium on foreclosures that have been tainted by the process. >> reporter: the white house recognizing it could slow down the economic recovery has doubts. >> i'm not sure about a national moratorium because there are, in fact, valid foreclosures that probably should go forward. and paperwork is proper. >> reporter: nationwide, there is no rush to foreclosure. the average time from the first missed payment until foreclosure is 478 days, more than 15 months. increase from 302 days five years ago. if it slows down further economy will move at speed of molasses which is why the white house rejects the cal
