or of the neighborhood associations. and being happy with saying, you know what this is an issue here and this is how we as this group plan to move about it and move on it. and working with the people that wanted to work with us. i think now at this point i'm into the formal names and having the organizations and the associations mainly because i have to be. but as a resident and as a parent and as a person that was living in the neighborhood, initially it became let's do this with this group of people. as you begin to do that it forces the neighborhood associations and the city to really begin to take notice of what you are doing. if you are saying that this is an issue and the people that are not a part of that group are saying it's not that this is the other issue now and you build that momentum and do that work it forces them to say, we have to acknowledge this group or these people and invite them to come in. i guess you have to figure out what that issue is that's not being worked on or looked at our being acknowle

so, we have been an association for 7 years. my background is i'm a third generation of san francisco. a teacher in the school district and cofound of met ma. we publish a news letter 4 times a year and have meetings 4 times a year. we decide today's best not to meet too often if we meet too often we will water down our base. by meeting quarterly we get 35 and 75 beam to attend a neighborhood meeting. we represent 500 to 600 homes in our area. i have news letters later on, copies of news letters if you are interested to take with you and we will talk more about that later. >> good morning i'm judy best of my recollectionwits. bs fn issa a 35 year organization has 45 organizations as members. the members are not individuals but organizations. and each organization sends delegates to coalitions to san francisco neighborhood monthly meetings. we have a monthly news letter. many of our organizations delegates sit on citizen advi adviceaadvic adviceary committees and active in the big over all, city wide issues in san francisco. one

[applause] >> thank you. three days ago in one of the most closely watched supreme court cases this term, graham versus florida, the united states superior court forbid the sentences of a juvenile to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a non-homicide crime. they found such a sentence is consistent with basic principles of decency. i'm proud to say that my firm was co-counsel for the juvenile in this case and wrote the brief for the juvenile in the court. this decision gives our clients, terrance graham, who had received the sentence of life without the possibility of parole. the bad acts he committed as

we worked with the merchant's association and neighborhood associations to do cleanups. the benefit of our office being involved is we go to dpw and say we want a little extra. we want you to do a bit more. we can help leverage that. your city supervisor can help leverage things you might not be able to leverage on your own. and let me look at my points here. >> so one of the things the captain talked about the effectiveness review. and so one of the things that supervisor mirkarimi when he came to office in 2005, heard a lot about our district is primarily governed or policed by 2 different police stations northern station and park station. and the western addition is divided in the lower haight is divided between the 2 stations. people were saying it doesn't make sense to us while we have a police station 2 blocks away the station a mile and over in golden gate park is responding to our calls. and so, the supervisor took a look at it and realized the district boundaries had not been reviewed in 30 years. he pass the legislation to make this a city priority to reevaluat

i am the president of shoreview residents' association. i approve even the hearing, even though there will be no action after the hearing. but this is well needed. as i said, i am the president of shoreview residents' association. supervisor avalos, you are aware of what we went through in 2007 and 2008 because there was no mandate or even oversight over first source hiring. the black and brown brothers had to literally come together to shut down the properties in order to make them do right. there was extortion of the latino brothers' checks. there was explication. there was one african american journeymen who was hired as a laborer, or so he was told, but on paper he was being paid as a journeyman carpenter. i agree with ms. jackson. there has to be tremendous diligent oversight. i was not even aware of some of the games that were going on. and when i found out, there was nowhere for the men or women to go. i had nowhere to go. we just resorted to shutting down the property to get the attention. and i think chairman maxwell then for havi

i wish that we would have come to the alzheimer's association from the onset.ecause they would have certainly saved us some of the stress and provided us even more resources. and quite frankly for us, the family, to be able to understand how to deal with the disease and care for someone that has it and interact amongst family members. >> is that one of the critical points of having a family member, is do we tell them? when do we tell them? >> well, in the beginning there's a denial process for some people. in the beginning stages of the disease, that's when the person will be aware of their memory. they'll remember that they don't remember. however, as the disease progresses, the person won't remember that they don't remember. so therefore, many times we recommend that people do not remind them that they're not remembering because it just adds stress, it makes them depressed, and it's really like -- you know, they don't see it. it's almost like you're lying to them because they -- it's not part much their consciousness. >> you might be making matters worse and

i represent the construction employers association. our association represents about 100 commercial building contractors in northern california representing over $10 billion worth of work annually. our key courters in san francisco will be web corps, niby brothers construction, the bolt companies, a number of familiar names. we are in support of workforce development, however, we feel that this ordinance as proposed is not a real workable solution. it's something that we've met with labor as well as other contractors and city contracting agencies on. there are some key points where this will legally conflict with collective bargaining agreements. all of the contractors we represent are union builders. it will increase the cost of construction for the city due to productivity and safety concerns. it shifts all of the risk on to the contractor in terms of workers' comp, insurance, bonding, things like that. and it simply outmandates the capacity that we have here. construction is a regional workforce. it's writhal industry. contractors n
