[applause] >> ladies and gentlemen, billy shore and governor o'malley.switching over to a different topic, we have several questions about your film career and transitioning into that, there are many celebrities with many causes, promoting many worthy causes for many reasons and there's a certain amount of attention people can give to different issues. how do you try to set yourself apart from other celebrities with your cause and do you fear people get celebrity fatigue as yet another hollywood actor tells them what good they should do for the world? >> i don't know about that. i'm just a guy out there trying to make the world, like the man says, i have a dream. me, too. i'm just out there trying to express that dream. and i got the feeling, like the other guy said, i'm not the only one, you know. i think we all can use our imagination and imagine how it could be better. and i don't know about this. you know, i don't know about that, the thing that celebrities aren't supposed to say stuff or something. i'm not sure. like we get in a conversation, i don'

rethink possible. >> larry: jeff bridges, billy shores, you feel you've made progress?reakfast, 30-year history of support for these programs and this enormous infrastructure of private programs like share our strengths, like end hunger network, jeff introduced me to a great organization called the unity shop that's doing comprehensive work to feed people. these organizations have sprung up all over the country. >> larry: when you go to that website you can learn how to give money too? >> can you learn how to give money, take the pledge, get involved in your local community. >> larry: i do something with the pledge. >> that's the thing. talking about how important this participating in these existing federal feeding -- meal programs, and that is very important. but one of the big keys, as far as i'm concerned, is creating this political will to do something about this problem. and, you know, our politicians, they're our representatives. >> larry: hopefully. >> hopefully. i mean, you know. but the first thing you've got to look at is creating your own will. you know, whe

but good point. >> billy shore, our caller talked about just educating parents.about his own kids, not always heeding his advise on the healthy foods. there's education about healthy foods and there's also what we call food insecurity. people who just don't have the money to buy food, who don't know where their next meal is coming from. can you talk about the difference? >> yeah, we have to deal with both of those. kids who are hungry on a chronic basis because they are not getting the food. a lot of families that live on the edge to such a great degree economically, they are not sure they are going to be able to buy groceries, and provide for their kids what they need. part of it is getting the resources to these families. i think there is no substitute for parental responsibility. that's important as well. also getting them the information. we have a program, for example, kind of parcel of the no kid hungry campaign. it's a very important nutrition education component. we work with, we teach, we don't do it, but we work with chefs and others around the country

[applause] >> first i would like to have the opportunity to thank jeff for your incredible leap -- during credible leadership. this has meant the world to us and you're making a huge impact. we just had the opportunity to meet with the secretary of agriculture, tom vilsack, and one of the things report talked about as although some cuts had been made in programs for kids to fund teachers, there have been cuts made in the snap program's future benefits to fund the child nutrition bill. both secretary vilsack, president obama, most of the congressional leadership has said that if we pass the nutrition act, if that becomes law, they will make sure that these other offsetting cuts, which would detract from food stamps and other benefits, that those will be restored. we have tried to create a point with no kid hungry, a program that does not take from one to give to another, that -- jeff has used the figure accurately over the last day or so, there is $1 billion available to state governme

he joins us from washington along with the founder of the program, billy shore. for having us. good morning. >> jeff, first of all, tell us about the campaign and why you're involved with it. >> this no kid hungry campaign is so exciting. according to the department of agriculture, we currently have 17 million of our kids who live in food insecure households, meaning they don't get enough nutrition to lead healthy, active lives. that's 1 in 4 of our kids. and the problem is not that there aren't programs that deal beautifully with this problem. programs like snap program, the former food stamp program. afterschool meals and the wic programs. they're not reaching enough kids. we've created this campaign to work with governors and mayors to take advantage of over a billion dollars that is available to them to end hunger in their communities and also is stimulate their economies. >> billy shore, looking at these numbers, how will you make that happen such how will you get beyond the governors and the politicians and utilize them to actually get the food and the mone

washington, jeff bridges, the national spokesman and the group's founder and executive director billy shore morning. >> good morning, kiran. >> jeff, you've been passionate about this for a long time. tell us about this new campaign, the no-kid hungry campaign that launches today. >> well, i'm so excited about it. as you heard what you just showed on the -- on the tv there. we're in dire straits. we have 17 million of our children who are living at homes with food and security, meaning they're not sure if they're going to get a nutritious meal or not. and share our strength. and bill shore has come up with a wonderful campaign to end childhood hunger by 2015. and we're going to be working with governors and mayors to really locate the gaps in the programs that are already in place such as the snap program, which is formally food stamps and the wic program and school meal program. >> right. and, you know, you mentioned the number, the figure 17 million. and billy, that's a shocking number to think nearly 1 in 4 kids has some question about whether or not they're going to be hungry at the end
