you remember before the elections, senator collinsç specifically voted no.he voted with the republicans not to bring the bill to the floor. because the process was not fair and open. first and foremost, harry reid will have to convince republicans when they bring this bill to the floor it will be open. how open is a question. there will be a number of amendments that can be voted on debated. i you did talk to somebody in senator murkowski's office. there are a couple of things they want to make sure people understand. murkowski's view is once she sees that report it has not hurt morale or recruitment. there are three things we need to watch. first thing is, does that report get the defense secretary gates on december 1st. and how quickly does it get to congress? what do they think of it? >> carl 11 promised to hold hearings. those hearings will be key. who will come to those hearings? what will they say? how will republicans interpret what they hear? according to murkowski's office, if they meet those tests, troop support and doesn't hurt morale, then there

news 4's pat collins spoke to his father. the latest on the investigation coming up at 5:00. >>> the man accuses of plotting to bomb melt electrostation me arraigned in court today. authorities say the pakistani born u.s. citizen was plotting with people he thought were al qaeda members to set off bombs at four metro stations in northern virginia. megan mcgrath has the latest. >> reporter: it was a brief court appearance. farouk ahmed entered the courtroom and answered yes to a few procedural questions. he's entered a plea of no guilty. his attorney has asked for a jury trial in this case. and the court date has been set. the trial date for april 11th. now, a man is accused of performing surveillance work and gathering security information regarding four northern virginia tro stations and a d.c. hotel. ahmed met on several occasions with people he tught were al qaeda. but instead they were federal agents. he supplied them information on where to place explosives so they would inict the maximum damage. we did get new informati

pat collins is there. he's been covering this trial throughout. i'm out here in contact that as soon as we know what the verdict is in this case, we will bring it to you. what we do know at this point is that ingmar guandique, who is serving a ten-year sentence for assaulting two other women with a similar pattern is now facing the possibility of felony murder, which could carry with it life in prison if cvicted. there's the lesser included offense, second degree murder, which could carry with it up to 40 years. as i said earlier, th could be a verdict of acquittal as well, but it is to be unanimous. you see people gathering in front of the courthouse. we are hoping that membersf the jury will come out and discuss the deliberations. what convinced them to reach the verdict. we have been told that they would deliberating this week, but would be breaking for thanks giving s with the mediasy of the weekend upon them, friday, they were unable to reach a verdict. apparently, they have reached a verdict today before the upcoming thanksgiving recess woul

pat collins is on this story. >> reporter: a case of road rage. it didn't happen on a friday night after the bars were closed. during rush hour when people are in a hurry to get from here to there. this happened last sunday afternoon when many people are still in church. we saw a rural second quarter of powder mill road. this is how police and sources tell this story. the suspects drive in his car. he tries to pass the victim but he cannot get by. the victim's car comes to a stop. the suspect pulls up alongside. he stops yelling at the viim and hits his rear view mirror but it doesn't to that there. the victim keeps driving down the road. he calls police to rport the incident. he sees an inset on the side of the road. he sees the suspect's car. he hears shots fired. it is all recorded on the 911 call. police track down the suspect and found him inse his car, outside his artment. here in silver spring. they charged him with knowingly driving an uninsuredvehicle. driving a vehicle on a highway without a proper registration fee. operating a vehicle o

superior court pat collins is at the courthouse with details. >> reporter: a security ramp up here in security court causes long lin and a delay before 45 minutes in the deliberations of the guandique jury. this is what it was like to get into the courthouse this morning. i'm told some time ago they found a gap in the security system. they tried to tighten up the screening process. that led to the long lines and the delay. even so, this jury of nine women, three men managed about five hours of deliberations. no note, no questions. they talked or listened to 47 witnesses throughout th trial. there is a lot for them to talk about in these deliberations. which resume again tomorrow. at 9:30. back to you. >> chandra levy's mother has been attending the trial. what's happening with her? has she gone home or still around waiting for the verdict? >> she is still here. this has been an agonizing experience for susan levy, chandra's mother. she t this courtroom shelf listened to graphic details about her daughter's death and now she waits in the hallways of this courthouse patiently for a verd
