john elberling and jean-paul samaha have done a good job. the experience they bring is important. i think it is important for us to have that continuity with respect to -- continuity. with respect to lend the richardson, we have heard a lot of a positive thing she brings. we may not always agree on every issue, but i respect where she is coming from, and i think she will do a good job in terms of the least representing the interests of overall, even if we may not agree on some issues. with respect to the two nominees, larry del carlo and larry mazzola jr., i think it is important to have labour representation. i am open to supporting mr. mazzola. mr. del carlo, his involvement and experience is something the project could benefit from. i don't have a problem moving these items for. the question that i have this the context or the form it takes. we do have a recommendation from the supervisor from the district that is a and asking -- that is asking to reject. i am not prepared to reject today. i think the board should take them and act on them quickly. i am prepared to do that. i a

item 32 is a motion approving the mayor's reappointment of jean-paul samaha to the treasure island development authority board of directors. supervisor daly: thank you, mr. president and colleagues. let me say there is at least one director here who i have supported several times, who has done excellent work on tida and who deserves to be reappointed, and i think that there is some merit to some of the other appointments as well, but representing treasure island here on the board of supervisors, having in the rules committee gone to some lengths to block commission appointment in order to get actual representation from residents of treasure island on to the treasure island development authority at this 11th hour, not just of the appointing authority's tenure as mayor of san francisco, but also the 11th hour of this supervisor's tenure here on the board of supervisors and my role on tida. i think that these appointments, especially in addition with the two other appointments considered in committee of the two weary -- larry appointments are a slap in the face of the residents of treasure island

by saying we support the renomination of clotting che -- claudine cheng, john elberling, and jean-paul samaha. bringing on new board members at this time would add to the strain of the transition and will put people with little or no history on the project into a position that will have a say over current residence. i keep hearing this will be a new neighborhood. we already have a neighborhood on the island. we already have relationships with the city, and we would like to see that go forward. given that mayor newsom is the lieutenant governor-elect, we feel it is the wrong time to lose the longtime president of the board and add members who do not have experience or a background with the community. we ask that you please maintain the members of the board until a new mayor is in office. supervisor alioto-pier: i'm curious just to know how many neighborhood organizations there are on treasure island. >> there is basically two. there is one on yerba buena island -- supervisor campos: if i may, i would ask people to turn off cell phones if the are in the chambers. thank you. supervisor alioto-pi

we will now hear from commissioner jean-paul sama. -- samaha. good morning. welcome back. >> good morning. i'm honored to be here today for reappointment. feels like i was just here. it was about a year ago when i was first appointed to fill out the term of a former director. this would be my reappointment to a full four-year term. i'm honored that the mayor has chosen to reappointment. -- chosen to reappoint me because there are critical decisions to be made for the future of treasure island. this is a volunteer position, and many of my friends and colleagues have wondered why i would want to spend more time in my busy life -- i'd probably work 80 hours a week. they complain that i never call them, never see them. i have three kids, and they ask why i want to spend more time doing something that is a volunteer position. frankly, my response is very clear. it is that i want to and i want to serve. i love to participate in the civic discourse in san francisco and give back to my city and my community. i come from a long history of government and civic particip
