second, do you care to comment on the dust-up over tsa patdowns? >> i have spoken to senator kyl directly. i believe senator kyl wants a safe and secure america, just like i do, and is well motivated. so what i said in terms of partisanship is that the climate in washington is one where it's hard to get parties to cooperate, especially after after a big election. that's understandable. folks are reorganizing. you have a lame duck session. there is a limited amount of time. it's been a long year. we've done a lot of stuff. people are i thinking about thanksgiving and getting off to christmas. i'm sure the republican caucus and the senate is really focused on next year. we're going to have a republican house. what are the things we want to get done and what are our priorities. so senator kyl has never said to me he does not want to see s.t.a.r.t. ratified. he hasn't publicly said he's opposed to the treaty. what he said is he didn't feel like there was enough time to get it done in the lame duck. and i take him at his word. what i'm trying to communi

you know, the choice between those revealing full body scanners or do you take the intrusive patdown? the tsa chief released a video this weekend trying to help educate the travellers even more and remind you of your options when you get to the airport. >> in either case where a patdown is required, you have born options we want you to be aware of. you have the option to request the patdown be conducted in a private room and have the option to have that patdown witnessed by a person of your choice. >> we're also hearing from president obama for the first time on this tsa controversy. he says the new procedures are the only ones considered effective. he was asked about it before he left the nato summit. take a listen. >> i don't go through security checks to get on planes these days, so i haven't personally experienced some of the procedures that have been put in place by tsa. i will also say that in the aftermath of the christmas day bombing, our tsa personnel are properly under enormous pressure to make sure that you don't have somebody slipping on a plane with some sort of explosive device

take a break, mayor nutter, the issue we've been dealing with over the holiday season here, the tsa patdownsre a better way? is the administration going to have to revisit the issue? >> well, security matters are always subject to review. i go through the airport, everyone wants everyone to be safe, not particularly intrusive. sometimes you run into conflicts there. can it be done differently or better? i'm sure they can figure out a way to get people through. but apparently everyone got to see grandma for thanksgiving, without a whole lot of lines or nonsen nonsense. everyone wants to be safe on an airplane. that's the bottom line. we seem to forget how we arrived at this point. full body scan, off into a separate room. every security measure is subject to review. you always want to do something better. the bottom line is safety on an airplane. >> what's that? >> after eight years you might want to rethink it. we started out here, we added this, added this, now we're doing this. stop, look back, rethink the whole thing with an eye to what will work in terms of real safety and what is unacce

supervisor. >> i've been saying all along, it's not like men and women president from tsa are enjoying the patdowns. tell us what you hear from your people, tsa agents working under these new policies? >> it's not a point of people enjoying what they are doing. what we're doing is we're trying to ensure people end up at their destination in a safe manner. we try to treat people with as much dignity and respect as we can to get that accomplished. one of the fears tsos have right now, we're hearing stories of tsos being assaulted, insulted by people who they have to perform this on. >> you're talking about the agents at the gate. you're getting reports of their being assaulted by passengers? tsos being assaulted, insulted by people who they have to perform this on. >> you're talking about the agents at the gate. you're getting reports of their being assaulted by passengers? >> the tsos at the check appoint as they are performing the procedures and also they are being insulted daily. >> as i said earlier, less than 2% of airline passengers are actually subjected to these patdowns despite all the noise
