jeff ranieri is tracking the storms over the bay right now. >> we are tracking these waves widespread here from the coastline, all the way at about 25 t to 35 miles an hour. t 35 miles an hour in the past half hour or so. as this front continues to move ashore, the wind will be translating here into your inland spots. the most consistent activity around theou north bay. just to the north of santa rosa, as we loop this over the past hour, you can see winds 20 to 25 miles an hour down towards petaluma. starting to get some showers in redwood city. now this storm system positioned offshore has also a strong jet stream component, that will bring us the chance of those isolated thunderstorms through tonight and also those winds at times 15 to 30 miles an hour. th all of our wet weather, four storms in seven days, that has all had to head somewhere and it has pushed from the bay area down into los angeles and that's where flood warnings continue to be an issue in los angeles. the rain is going to head there for wednesday. let's get a look at this video here in san diego, flooding is one of

meteorologist jeff ranieri looks ahead, but first tracy grant takes a look at the storm's impact in the bay area. >> reporter: jessica, in terms of damage, some say the bay area has gotten off pretty easy so far. thousands of people have had some problems with their power over the last couple of days, but pg&e says it has restored power to just -- all but just a few homes in the bay area. but a spokesman for pg&e tells us that people should be concerned about soil saturation because of more rain comes more water and that should bring big problems. residents on marleau drive in oakland got a crash course in soil saturation yesterday when this huge tree keeled over on top of this house. either the rain-soaked earth or wind gusts or a combination of both toppled the tree, taking down the chimney and some power lines along with it. glenda lightfoot was looking out her window when it happened and thought at first it was just a few limbs, not the entire tree. >> it was very loud. people down the street heard it. and they thought it was an earthquake. never, you know, thinking at the time that

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is tracking the storm from our weather center. >> after sunday's quick blast of the rain and wind, our latest storm system is developing out here in the pacific. now that center of low pressure with strongest amount of wind and rain will continue off to the north. we'll be on the bottom edge of this. you can see it's starting to arrive about 88 miles offshore. we're tracking a little bit of light rain. nothing too heavy at this time. our computer is picking up trace amounts anywhere from a tenth of an inch to around 0.05 of an inch. we'll see a half inch over the next 48 hours. east bay and south bay near a quarter of an inch. definitely the north bay getting on heaviest amounts of rainfall. we've only seen 2 to 4 inches across the bay area since the water year started on july 1st. that puts everyone below normal this point. this will help us to catch up. details on the weekend in minutes. >> san francisco may be famous for fog but sun made news in the city today. we see a ground breaking new solar project. >> reporter: a casual observer stumbling on the

jeff ranieri is checking the latest models. how widespread is this flooding? >> this does not look like an event in 2005, however, we cannot rule out the possibility that we will see isolated areas of flooding here. that's what we're going to have to look for and that's why it's important to make sure the gutters are cleaned out cht it is the wettest period of the rainfall season that's starting to move in rht now. we have ahoew srswe ahead of the system from santa rosa down to san francisco, even some light pockets of rainfall here in the northrs bay. but the coverage is not very widespread and the rainfall is not very heavy right now. however, we're tracking system number one. that has a major plume of moisture is it that's going to be heading for us this weekend. possibly two to four inches for the valleys, three to five for the hills. winds, 20 miles per hour atti times. some isolated, urban flooding with one to two inches of rain that will impact was friday and saturday. >>> now to other news. in newark, police are asking for witnesses to come forward in

it has moved into the bay area, so let's check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri with more on who is facing a wet commute tonight. >> the storm system finally getting its legs it arred on a monday and we're just now fally seeing some rainfall here in the bay area. the stubborn storm continues to push off here slowly to the southeast. the north bay has had rainfall about four hours off and on, some showers, even some moderate pockets of rainfall here on the highway 101 corridor for novato right into petaluma. so you can see it's completely covered if you're heading mayb over the golden gate bridge, into petaluma, sonoma or napa. back out here towards san francisco, we are following more rainfall offshore that will continue to move here off to the northeast. that will get the peninsula wet here over the next hour or so. we haven't seen too much activity back towards the east bay or in the south bay at this point, but we will be getting in on more rainfall here as we head throughout the next couple of hours. now, this is much-needed rainfall for the bay area. right now all areas
