i'm meteorologist nick o'kelly. tracking the latest storm system to hit the bay area, rain will be heavy at times on and off throughout the day today and winds gusting to 25 and possibly 30 miles per hour,s specially in the higher terrain. looks like the next several days will be wet and unsettled. a series of storm systems head our way. we have a transfer of somewhat drier weather towards friday. >>> christmas day is still about a week away. we will have plenty of rain between now and then. today in some parts of the bay area, the wind gusts are causing some homeowners to shout timber. in the montclair neighborhood the saturated ground gave way bringing down this giant pine tree, crashed right into the house. the people who lived there had to call out an arborist to help clear out the debris. the tree punctured a hole in the roof and the ceiling of their living room. no one was hurt, though. >>> but the folks in the santa cruz mountains are still preparing for the worst that this series of storms will bring. people

the bbc's nick davis told me how the case unfolded. >> she was actually murdered just over -- close to a a month ago. november 13. just go back in time. what happened while she was going from the area of cape town, she was with her husband and traveling in a taxi when it was carjacked, simply carjacked. he was taken out of the vehicle. so was her husband who has been arrested today. but she was later found dead, shot in the neck. and at a time many were concerned how this had happened and raised questions about security in south africa, but only yesterday in the cape crown court, cape high court that we found allegations came forward that her husband possibly was involved in this. and that's the reason why today he was arrested by members of the metropolitan police extradition unit. their job to put in place a warrant which was issued by the south african authorities. >> and even though only it

nick found the first man in kunduz, way up in the north. >> reporter: in his tiny village in northern afghanistan, the best jan mohammad can do is hide. hide from taliban who coerce residents, charge taxes and roam freely. "i couldn't give them what they wanted, so i ran away," he says. "i had to abandon my family for two months." jan says he feels abandoned by the u.s. and alienated by his government. does the afghan police or army help you at all? "nobody," he says, "has helped us." this building behind me was the local school. in the spring, the taliban came to the school, armed, and threatened the principal to stop teaching girls. they ended up beating him, and the school has been closed ever since.
