train operator spotted smoke in the transbay tube. while we were at the station, we saw some smoke coming out of a tunnel. it was noticeable, even an hour after the smoke was first reported. emergency crews were dispatched to 30 and 32 in oakland, the access point to the transbay tube. the problem appears to be with an insulator. for 50 minutes the tube was shut down, but b.a.r.t. has re-opened one side of the tube. riders are able to get to either side of the bay, but with only one track in patience it's taking longer. some home have had to wait up to an hour. >> it happens sometimes. so, it's okay. an adventure. >> friend's 90th birthday party. not going to get there in time. if i do, he may be gone. >> our crews are down inside the transbay tube, and they found what appears to be preliminary anywherery an insulator problem. that's the piece of equipment that holds the electric third rail that supplies power to the train. separated it from the ground. and so the insulator had what they believe, preliminarily, is mineral buildup. >>

one other point -- i was doing one of these interviews, and they asked me about transbay, and i was not even thinking. it was probably on my phone or my i had doing something else, and i was giving an interview at the same time, and i just went into the talking points about climate change and a new neighborhood and affordable housing, and i was talking 40 we will or three minutes of ourtransbay -- about transbay not paying attention, and i had to stop myself and say that i was really giving the talking points, but when i stop to think about it, this is an incredible project, and i probably have been rounded and involved in too long to fully appreciate how incredible it is. you have to take a few steps back to look at it, and if you think about the -- about climate change, about the future of the state of california and our transportation systems, if you go to enough regional government meetings and talk about regional airport expansion and you have that kind of perspective, trust me, this is huge. it has been my honor, my pleasure to have been part of it over the last eight years. thank

we started demolition of the front of the transbay building. many of you may have seen that on television. we also received the first $25 million in aero funding. in addition, you may have heard this and this is the board of supervisors passed a unanimous resolution of necessity to allow certain properties to construct the project. i would like to thank the san francisco board of supervisors for their work. we have 86 items -- in agreement with the state historic preservation organization -- to preserve such items and then provide them to museums. the department of transportation in oakland will also be using them as interpretive exhibits. you will be seeing some of the pictures later. with respect to the transit building, we expect tell the court palais to issue as a document on december 20. that will begin the review and common process, and it will take approximately 13 weeks, as agreed on by everyone. we also, as you know, issued a request for design proposals for the design and build glazing package. all bidders attended a fee proposal conf
