jenelle wang, abc 7 news. >> jenelle thank you. 4:32.ack here drivers hate them cities love them and now a national traffic safety group is making a strong argument for red light cameras. and the results of the study may have bay area cities installing more of them. terry mcsweeney is live in san francisco to explain. terry? >> yeah. this is a study by the insurance institute of highway safety and it says that 159 lives were saved in the 14 cities it was studying over the course of this five-year study. if you're a drive and don't know what these red light cameras look like that's what they look like. this is 5th and harrison in san francisco and there are 33 other ones here. take a look here in the bay area. south san francisco has them, redwood city from santa rosa to san ramon down to san jose. they're all over the place. now this new study did not include any of the local cities in its study. but it did find that the rate of all failed crashes at intersections with signals fell 14% in camera cities and went up 2% in non-camera cities
