picture of the police car that ran into a house here on cottage park drive in a small side street of whitman here in hayward. we want to bring in officer daniel jackwitz, who's going to tell us what happened. how did this vehicle start being chased to begin with? >> we attempted to make an enforcement stop on a high- speed vehicle. the vehicle did not yield, and he proceeded on 580 exiting foothill boulevard in the city of hayward. the pursuit continued through surface streets here and ended up in this residential neighborhood, at which time the suspect rammed the officer's patrol vehicle, causing the officer to collide with a porch of a residence here in the neighborhood. no one was injured at the residence. the porch structure was damaged. the officer did receive minor damage to his forehead. the suspect took foot -- fled the scene on foot. >> i heard that you found a loaded gun in the car after this chase. what happened to the suspect? you caught him nearby? >> yes, after the suspect fled the scene on foot we did apprehend the suspect with the help of the hayward police department, at whi

>> reporter: we are just east of cal state east bay on whitman street and really a dramatic chase as you mentioned starting with a high-speed chase up 580. take a look at the video. after the chase went on for 10 minutes up 580 at speeds up to 100 miles an hour, they came into a neighborhood. obviously not into the neighborhood at 100 miles an hour, but still fast enough that the two cars when they came through rammed into each other. chp is saying that the suspect car hit the chp car and that's what caused it to veer off into the house that you see there. interestingly enough, despite the high speeds, really no one was hurt inside. the chp officer was taken to the hospital with some minor head injuries. but just damage to the exterior to the porch of that house that you can see there. the suspect after the wreck got out and tried to run away. but he was caught a short distance away by the hayward police department. a gun was found in his car. no one was hurt on the inside of the house. the chp officer taken to the hospital with minor head injuries but it was scary. listen to this so
