it's the north bay, solano county, and parts of the east bay still seeing some severe weather as you can see here on our radar. we've highlighted these areas in purple for you. it's downtown napa now, right toward fairfield and into pittsburgh and abbott antioch, where you have hail in progress, probably about penny sized hail with some of these stronger storms. the strongest to me right now looks like it's continuing to develop right over downtown napa. you can see across the east bay hills we still have these thundershowers kind of blossoming up at the heating of the day. as the sun sets i think you'll see the intensity of these showers start to drop off. hollister, lingering showers thanks to a trough of low pressure diving down the coast, packing all that cold canadian air with spring-time heating. can be a volatile mix. there's some good news for your friday forecast. i think we'll see some isolated showers for the morning. during afternoon clearing skies, breezy but cool, as we wrap things up for your work week. as we approach the weekend some of the best weather we've seen in

it's been a mess around solano and eastern contra cost county, into napa county. if you want to know what it's like to drive through one of these cells, thanks to jeff bielsen, you can. it made the road coated in ice and white on the side of the road. that was along interstate 80 a little bit earlier this afternoon. you can see the last three hours on this time lapse, showing you the radar. those areas of purple, that's when our radar detects hail and we had a lot of it right there around fairfield into napa. looks like the heaviest cell right now is approaching concord from moving north to south. so probably in the next 15 minutes or so, you will see quite a bit of hail coming down into downtown concord. and there you see east of mt. diablo, east of livermore, we're also still seeing some thunderstorms. san jose relatively dry right now. in between now and sunset tonight, still the risk of some thundershowers and hail, then our focus starts to shift overnight to some rare late-season patchy frost. we'll walk you through the very chilly changes in the forecast com

in the 12th annual state of the air report, santa clara, contra costa and solano counties were the worst in the bay area with the highest number of bad air days. alameda county was nearly as bad. as for highest number of good days? sonoma county followed by san mateo and san francisco. while the bay area has seen dramatic improvement in air quality, more people and more cars are on the way. and cars and vehicles burn a lot of fossil fuels, major source of an especially dangerous type of air pollution called particulate pollution. that involves tiny fine particles. >> the very tiny particles instead of impacting in the throat or the nose make it all the way down into the lungs. and they carry with them all kinds of other toxic chemicals. so that's what we think increases the risk of things like lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. >> reporter: bad air can also affect patients with medical conditions. >> if they are on a lot of appropriate medication they may make it through without going to the emergency room but feel worse. >> reporter: dina plans around the pollution. >> instead of r

a solano county judge out on bail this morning after his wife called vallejo police. superior court judge robert bowers facing a felony domestic violence charge. police say bowers' wife suffered a minor injury at their home sunday night. bowers presided over the judge of fairfield city councilman matt bigler. >>> state lawmakers want to get tough on drivers who skip paying bridge tolls. so far this year, people without fastrak accounts have overruled through electronic boots 1 1/2 million times, about $14 million in unpaid tolls and fines. now lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow officers to seize the car if that driver owes $2,000 or more. a first offense can turn into a $70 penalty if ignored or worse. >> that $70 penalty, that second notice, is not cleared, we can then send the license plate information to the dmv, and a hold will be placed on that vehicle's registration for the next time it comes up. >> a first offense comes with a $25 fine. that will be waived if you sign up for fastrak in 30 days. >> i got nailed in florida and they take a picture o
