i am begins chair of the san francisco pta, the second district of the california pta. that is what i am a going to speak on behalf of. my purpose of coming before you is to make mention of the fabulous art work on the east wall as well as directly behind the board members seated. first bill i want to mention that even though we have only about two hours left is an auspicious day for the san francisco pta. it rests on april 12, 1912, that the san francisco pda was formed, and we hope to continue to support the children and families for another 99 years. the reflections program was started in 1969 and has encouraged many students. you can see on the wall behind main that there was this year's theme. the student artwork is meant to reflect their interpretation. please take this opportunity over the next two eastview this gallery of most special art. we will be sending dvd's to all commissioners as well as to the superintendent's office so you can look at what was received from san francisco students. we are so very proud of all of the participants and hope you are, as well

in the pta president of longfellow elementary school. we are 650 students strong. i will 100 students to school every wednesday, and yet, i cannot get police escorts. i have 100 kids that i walk to school, eight blocks every wednesday to help save the environment, help them keep healthy, and alleviate the problems with our traffic. even though i said e-mails, i cannot get police escorts to help keep our children safe as i walk them to school. they are my responsibility. even though i sent e-mails, i do not get police escort. i would like police escort for those 100 children i walk to school every wednesday to get to school safely. i would appreciate that. and i would appreciate for the san francisco police department -- they have walked with us on our what the school day, so i appreciate that. however, every wednesday, i do want kids to school, and their lives are my responsibility, and i would like the hon. the other thing -- affordable housing sounds very nice and all, but we need jobs. affordable housing cannot be affordable if you do not have a job. we have lot

members have been working with members of the district pta and parents for public schools to develop a tool kit. it will offer resources and tools for parents to help voice their concerns. will also been working with the district staff, a lot of whom i see here that have been very supportive. along with the leadership to make sure that the materials are accurate and in line with district policy and labor agreements. we conducted several focus groups including meeting with the district parent liaisons'. they have their pulse on the community and know what the concerns are as well. to give you a little background on this initiative, a organizations get a lot of calls all the time about how parents can bridge their concerns at the schools. this issue came to the forefront when we realized there were many parents that having many issues and did not know what process to walk through to make sure those concerns were that the district. it is really important to develop a system and work within the district to ensure that the parents know what the chain of command looks like. we also found th

we played at the pta meet lings and social events. my father said, great, i want to be with my daughters. he tried to place the upright base. he went to lessons, my mother went and sat very quietly in the back. as my father was trying to learn the upright base. my teacher said, mr. thornton, you got to practice. you can't come in here and try to learn. you have to practice. she just sat and listened. next thing you know, mom is on bass and dad is out. we had to change to the thornton sisters, we wanted to be more mature. we named ourself the thornton sisters. now in those days, i know a lot of you know "american idol" yes, for sure. before that was "star search" within all of these are amateur shows that basically that give the amateur a chance to star and to be a star. well, back in the 1950s, there was the same sort of kind of amateur show called ted mac. and the original amateur hour. by then we were playing jazz. we should apply and audition. go up there and see what we can do. we said, okay, daddy. so we bent. believe it or not, w

there has been a very robust neighborhood and community process that was sponsored by the bueno vista elementary school pta and sf general. they came up with a thematic design for this mural. here's a closer look at the current condition of the wall and some of the attagging that we get there. the thematic design would look like this. through the student body out reached, they came up with this. this was deemed to be inappropriate topic. they have come up with an artist, mr. victor reyes, who has designed and installed the mural. he has tremendous street cred with the local tagging and skater community in san francisco. san francisco general would be responsible for repairing any damage to parts of the mural for the life of the peace. it will be done withnon-fading pigments. it also has au u-v protectorate. sf general will be responsible for cleaning up or getting rid of any tagging, should it occur on the wall. that's pretty much the summary of the project itself. this is not on rec and park property. under the jurisdiction of the parks commission. we thought it was prudent to at least bring this to you f
