mike mibach. dave clark is off today. >> i'm tori campbell. we begin with gunfire on a bay area freeway that has critically injured one driver. claudine wong joins us from beni sha. the shooting happened off vallejo. they drove four miles to get to this mcdonald's, pulled in and walked in that door right there. this was caught on tape. you could see the car pulling into the parking lot from this surveillance video. at some point the driver is staying inside but the passenger gets out. when they get out, it appears the driver is still able to walk. remember, he's been shot in his arm and wrist, but the chp said he was feeling woo -- woosy. you can see they get to the front part and the driver collapses on the floomplet at that point you can see everyone trying to react. one employee is a medical assistant. he went to put pressure on the wound while the manager called 911. back out here in benicia, police respond. once they realized it was a freeway shooting, the chp was call) the two victims were 19 and 20, from vallejo and benicia. the chp bel

mike tobin at fort campbell. let many get back to the economy. we have new information that came out todayen to the jobs picture in the united states. the national unemployment rate for the month of april ticked up to 9% up from 8.8% in the previous month. that's the first increase since november. but at the same time the u.s. added 244,000 jobs last month. so that's a decent number. we are being told that is the biggest hiring spree we have seen in five years. if you are confused how these numbers can be heading in two different directions. that's why we goth to this gentleman. hey, doug. >> reporter: how one interprets the job numbers may be a reflection of one's political views. it's a good news bad news story. and something the president's opponents accent waiting the negative. the economy created 224,000 jobs, the largest increase in 11 months. some economists expected a gain of 186,000. some believe these numbers are approaching the points where the u.s. could see a self-sustaining job growth situation. the bad news is the unemployment rate

mike. jason campbell with rand.general amos, over the last few months there's been a fairly well-publicized of increase in number of representatives from civilian agencies in the government. however there's been other reports that due to security concerns many of these newly-arrived civilians aren't able to get out to the field as much as hoped. looking specifically at our rc southwest, can you speak to the impact the civilian surge has had on area of operations? >> jason, i would be happy to. everything we've done certainly in the last 10 years has been evolutionary. we're not the same, we don't look at things the same at the department of defense as we did prior to 9/11. and i suspect that a lot of our inner agency partners don't view things the same way as they did prior to 9/11 either. i mean who would have thought that we would have, that we would actually be hiring people in the civilian agencies now and part of their contract way i understand it when you sign on you are deployable and can go to some of these

mike mibach. dave clark has the day off. >> i'm tori campbell. we begin with a major development. it happened in east oakland. 30 minutes ago police confirmed both men that were shot have died. tara moriarty joins us live from oakland. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. assistant chief howard jordan did confirm that the two people involved in the shooting that the officer shot did die. the shooting happened at the end of this road. we're in an area north of 580. the tow truck hauled away a car that had its back window shot out. a look at some video that our crew shot last night. ktvu was the first to arrive on scene. at 9:00 officers received inside information that violence was about to erupt here. they got a tip on a target vehicle, a light blue van. within an hour and a half they spotted the cars and moved. gunfire started. two suspects were shot. neighbors we talked to said they were surprised by the violence. >> this kind of behavior is shocking. i've been in the neighborhood since the mid-'90s. every once in awhile you see this activity, helicopters, speeding car
