i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm rj. this is an adventure they won't soon forget.lose to 200 boy scouts are trapped on the wrong side ofhe hever. the scouts were sedeparat from the rest of the arpack. this is easof stockton and siniora. we bring in cheryl hurd who joins us live with the latest. >> reporter: it's going to be an interesting night for over 200 boy scouts of america. they're okay tonight, but may be feeling a little trapped. tuesday's unseasonable rainfall turned out to be a big problem for 240 boy scouts camping in the sierra. >> our main concern was food and medications as some of the boys may need. >> reporter: the rain caused the river to crest, covering a foot bridge. an emt and registered nurse made it through rugged terrain, around the river to the camp site. >> the sheriff's department set up a cabling system and was able to transfer food across. >> reporter: the scouts have three square meals to hold them over until they can make it back. >> the bridge is visible. it's not visible enough for us to look at the structure and make sure it's sound

. >> and i'm jessica aguirre. tonight, a burning issue. a devastating fire at a san jose elementary school is leading for a call to change tonight. the unified district is in the hotseat after a grand jury found that its outdated emergency equipment and policies led to the destruction of that school last summer. george, this is a damaging report by the grand jury. what exactly does it say the school district did wrong? >> reporter: the grand jury made it clear in the report that sprinklers and automatic fire alarms should be installed in all new and remodeled san jose unified schools and says the building that burned down here at trace elementary school did not have them. >> it was quite devastating for them to see their classrooms burning up in flames. >> reporter: cheryl has two chirp that go to the school. she supports a grand jury recommendation urging the san jose unified school district to install sprinklers and fire alarms when they build a new school or remodel an existing one. >> i don't think there should be any question about it

good evening, i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm raj mathai.his is a special edition, we're on at 4:00 tonight because of the stanley cup finals. we begin with new developments, a man held in connection with the brutal beating of giants fan bryan stow claims he's not the one. today giovanni ramirez took a polygraph test to prove it. this is video just in, it shows ramirez being walked into police headquarters in los angeles to take the exam. his attorneys say ramirez has an alibi for the night of march 31st when those attacks happened and also claims his head was not shaved at the time, something witnesses described to police. ramirez is still not charged in the attack on the paramedic, bryan stow, but he was arrested for parole violations following a seven-week search for stow's attackers. the other attacker remains on the loose. >>> get ready, because another round of wet weather is here, and if you were outside, you probably thought about it. it is the first day of june, but it really is feeling a lot more like january. we're seeing our shar

. >> i'm jessica aguirre. we begin with breaking news, two people stabbed multiple times near a walnut creek car wash. the suspects ran off into the apartment complex and they haven't been found. that's where nbc bay area's cheryl hurd is live at the scene. what are police telling you at this point? >> as can you see, there's still a lot of activity out here on the streets. police are talking to witnesses and as you can see, the area is still roped off. as you said, we are in the 2900 block of north main, police are talking to witnesses. now, this is a sizable business area, and a large apartment complex nearby. police tell me it all started just before 9:00 this evening in the parking lot of the walnut creek car wash. some people who live nearby heard a loud arthur amount and a huge fight and gathering outside. when police got here, two people had significant stab wounds, they were rushed to local hospitals. the suspects fled on foot. details are still sketchy, they don't know what started the fight, and they

. >> i'm jessica aguirre. if you're just joining us, we watched the president deliver a nationwide address announcing the withdrawal of 10,000 troops from afghanistan by the end of this year, another 23,000 troops by the end of summer next year. the president saying that the tide of war has changed. and that it's time now to begin nation-building here at home. saying the wars in afghanistan and in iraq have been costly both in money, $110 billion a year, and also in lives, 4,500 lost in iraq and 1,500 lost in afghanistan. the president saying that that number, 33,000 soldier and military personal that will be returned back home, roughly the number that was sent in through the surge. the president saying it is time to bring the wars to a responsible end. now when those military personnel come over, the fight certainly won't be over. so many will have to deal with the long-lasting effects, the president calling them demons, and not just mental but physical, as well. mary ann favaro joins us live from san francis
