. >> it is gorgeous, i'll send people to this tree, this is the brisbane box. we plant a lot of trees from australia and new england. brisbane box, they're well adapted, they have trees that will do well in our climate. a bigger chaltoning plant in many parts of the san francisco, the micro climate, we have windy area, really foggy areas and part of the reason we don't have native trees, is there weren't a lot of native trees in those climates. they're shrubry and branchry and they don't make good street trees. >> a good street tree is a tall tree that hasn't been topped or hacked back to get under wires. one reason this is lovely, is it is allowed to achieve its actual frm and a lot of times you see this lollipop trees or trees that are packed back to get under wires. on this particular street, we don't have overhead wires, we'll release them and they can definitely more naturally. >> this is a great street tree, it is a new tree, it is a hearty urban tree but it didn't have some of the problems of a ficas. it is more like a column at maturity, it gets good si

we moved here from brisbane from our old innovation. we do printmaking, gallery shows, and we have a fabulous retail store where there are lots of fun things to find. >> we will look at all of that as we walk around. it is incredible to me how many different things you do. how is it you identify that san francisco was in need of all these different services? >> it came from stepping out of graduate school in 1972. i wrote a little thing about how this is an idea, how our world should work. it should have printmaking, archiving, a gallery. it should have a retail store. in 1972, i wanted to have art sales, point-of-sale at the grocery store. >> so you go through the manifesto. with the bay area should have. you are making art incredibly accessible in so many different ways, so that is a good segue. let's take a walk around the facilities. here we are in your gallery space. can you tell me about the current show? >> the current show is jeff chadsey. he is working on mylar velum, a smooth, beautiful drawing surface. i do not know anyone th

and we just checked in with the north county fire authority which responds for daly city, brisbane and pacifica. the spokesman for the department says they don't have a cause this morning and it's not suspicious at this point. fortunately students don't return to school for little more than a month. investigators are looking into whether this fire was intentionally set. firefighters say that the fire appeared to have started outside the building. now they were able to put the flames out within about 15 minutes of their arrival. the school is located on christian avenue surrounded by duplexes. no one was hurt and it looks like flames did not spread far from the portable building. we're going to have more on this story and more from the fire department coming up. live from daly city, jade hernandez, back to you. >>> well, san francisco firefighters are on the scene of a fire in the city's sunnyside neighborhood. that fire started at about 2:30 this morning at a home on melrose avenue. the flames then spread to a second house. firefighters report no injuries. no word yet on what started t

what may not be as clear to people is what companies are located in silicon valley and brisbane that are not here. i would have thought they would have moved here first, but they are not here. when you look at those companies like google or hp or other silicon valley's, that is why i went down to talk to the silicon valley leadership forum. there ceo's -- their ceo's had a chance to coordinate with us. they were telling us why they would not moving to san francisco. that gave me another agenda that is not corporate welfare. what can we attract here for them? the key is education. we've got to have an intelligent work force that keeps them wanting to be here. that is the number-one thing. that is why i investing so much time in creating a strong connection with our city college, school district. they've got to make sure we have a very integrated education system. that will be a key for many years to come. they tell us in no uncertain terms that they come here because these are the best minds. if they have marginal engineers , just being here makes those engineers better when they are

so it probably swept mer way towards brisbane. >> reporter: and then the tide swept mer back to foster city. now, her husband was up all night and actually forgot his own sail in the confusion of his own wife disappear egg. she did suffer hypothermia and is being treated to san francisco general hospital and her husband is on his way there to be with her. >>> and new, police are investigating a homicide. police say 23-year-old jabari banfield was shot several times just before 9:00 last night in front of his home on illinois street. it's believed he was talking to somebody in a car when another car pulled up and someone started shooting. paul chambers is in east palo alto and will have another at 7:30. >>> the investigation is underway into a suspicious overnight fire in vallejo. it caused major damage to an aban doned -- abandoned home on star avenue. clothes and other things left fueled the flames. investigators are calling this fire suspicious. one because it's in an abandoned home and two, the fire broke out in the middle of the night. the damage is estimated to be around $100,000.

. >> all southbound lanes of 101 at sierra point parkway in brisbane are open today again after a two-carent involving a suspected drunk driver. highway patrol says that at about 2:30 this morning the driver of a honda crashed into a tree along side the freeway. a mitsubishi was also involved in the crash. one of the cars flipped over. the chp has yet to say which drive ser suspected of driving under the influence. the driver arrested for dui is held at the san mateo jail in redwood city. the other driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment. >> a richmond teen will come home tonight after living through a bear attack in the alaskan wilderness. over the weekend a bear attack add group of campers including 18-year-old victor martin from richmond, while they were crossing a river north of anchorage. martin and the rest were finishing up a month-long survival skills course when the bear attacked. the teen told troopers this were crossing the river when those at the front screamed about a bear coming toward them. the two teens at the front suffered the worst of the attack. they are now
