now, i want all of us tonight to think about grant park on election night. think intensely for a moment about grant park, the night the president of the united states won the election. i mean, there was emotion going on, there was feeling in the crowd. i mean, if you're sitting at home watching it, it was an unbelievable television moment. the country felt great. could you in your wildest dreams, if you can remember back to that night at grant park, if the president had said, we're going to have change, and within 30 months i'm going to have social security, medicare and medicaid cuts on the table. that's how much things that changed. the lawmakers that i talked to tonight, they are stunned. this "washington post" story that came out last night, they're so uptight about this. whoever leaked that to the "washington post" in the obama administration should be fired! that's irresponsible playing with people's lives. because, you see, this is serious stuff for a lot of folks. you cut $500 out of somebody's fixed income, you're really messing with their life. and

i would like you to extend your inquiry into the stock at grant park. -- stop and grand park. we have graffiti that will not quit. we have filth. it probably involves excrement and urine. frankly, i do not use that stop except for rarely because of these problems. that stopped is rarely used. when i have been down there a few times per year, rarely there is anyone they're using it. if you wish to speed up accessibility to other stops, i would say to shut it down. then, there is access. if there was a health emergency or any one was attacked, cars are prevented from coming off. stopping to assist anyone. i had an experience two months ago. for me and everyone in my home is concerned about these issues there. a group of youths was standing around in something raised the hairs on the back of my neck when i went by myself, without a person in my hand or a cell phone, attempting not to be victimized, i happened to use it that day at 4:30. i felt distinctly threatened by the fact that one of the students stood two feet in front of me and was obviously casing me for an opportunity. p

all of you i cannot help but think back to the election to one-half years ago and that night in grant park. it was the culmination of an extraordinary campaign that drew on the hard work of people all across america. men and women and some children. i did well with the eight and under demographic. men and women who believed the change was possible. they believe we did not have to accept politics as usual. they believed we could have a country that lived up to its finest aspirations. was a beautiful night. everybody was feeling pretty good. what i said that night, i said this is not to the end. this is just the beginning. the road we were on was going to be difficult. the climb was going to be steep. we did not know how steep it was going to be. we did not realize the magnitude of the recession we were facing and the financial crisis. we did not realize we had already lost 4 million jobs by the time i was sworn in. we knew it would be tough. that was ok. i did not run for president to do easy things. i ran for president to do hard things.
