earnings, shares of intel ended the day pretty flat. just 0.3% lower. for the most part, over the past six months, intel's strong earnings have sent its stock generally speaking quite a bit higher. it's time to focus what the story of success was for this company and what's accounting for these record figures. let's find out the answer to that question. we're joined by christian borales. thank you for coming on the show. the figures are records for you. but let's spin things forward. things are changing in the personal computer space. let me read you an analyst's question for you, let's say. the primary question many investors are going to be asking is where is intel seeing the fundamental strength in the p.c. market? how would you answer that question? >> first of all, if we look at the last updates from the market survey companies, they have given a high growth for this year. they are expected a double-digit growth for this year. this segment is growing well. it's a 400 million units kind of category. pretty significant. we see this k

last 12 months of intel. after-hours, they dropped another 2%. this jump we've got in april to 52 week high came off of its previous quarterly report and in improved outlook. this time around, intel's guidance is slightly above estimates. financial stocks led the market today, and bank of america's 3% gain was the best performance among dow industrial stocks. look for it way down there! this is just the past 90 sessions, but today's buying came off of b. of a.'s lowest price in two years. since the beginning of july, bank of america is down 11%. the big loser of the dow was united technologies, the company behind otis elevator, carrier air conditioners and pratt and whitney jet engines. shares fell almost 2% on heavier volume. two weeks ago this stock was at an all-time high. earnings were strong and the firm raised its forecast. its chief financial officer say they're seeing a broad-based recovery. a couple of merger stories. clorox regained more than 2.5% as investor carl icahn increased his buyout price to $80 per share. that's now what he's o

intel's results come tomorrow afternoon and coca-cola jumped more than 3%. this is coke's highest price since 1998. second quarter earnings were a penny more than estimates. growth was driven by emerging economies china and india, while coke's north american business was flat. one of the drags on the dow today was health care company johnson & johnson. shares fell more than 0.5%, dropping to a three-week low. in reaction to earnings results. while earnings were better than expected, the company said fewer elective surgeries and doctor visits have held back growth. it left its forecast unchanged. that led to selling pressure. check out this move by harley davidson today-- almost 9% higher as volume increased four- fold. talk about get your motors running here! this is harley's highest price in almost four years, after reporting strong second quarter profits. u.s. sales were up for the first time since late 2006. harley raised forecast for how many bikes it will ship, despite the c.e.o. calling consumers skittish. beyond earnings, some talk of buyouts helped i

intel depends heavily on the pc market and that is not the biggest growth area. it's a big growth is in the mobile sector and not in the pc market which had to lower the expectations for the pc business for the months ahead. there is a mixed outlook and that is the reason why the stock of intel is losing in the thursday session. >> what other shares or stories are standing out in the session? >> basically, we got extremely good numbers if you compare them to expectations from morgan stanley, the last big american bank to come out with earnings. the stock is trading up by 1.9%. that helps to support financial stocks and wall street. we had a pretty gloomy outlook from pepsi. they had decent numbers for the past but the outlook is a bit disappointing. that stock is one of the bigger losers with a drop of about 5%. >> thank you very much. staying with earnings, things are looking up for american express. cardholders spendnd record amount in the second quarter of this year and that sent profits surging to over $1.3 billion. this was a bit of a comeback. many corporat
