keeping streets clean, businesses, supporting small businesses, maintaining and making sure the city is livable for everyone. no one really looked to their neighbors. they stayed within their neighborhood, but did not reach beyond the boundaries. that is one thing i saw that i actually made a concerted effort on the campaign to build bridges. for me, that goes beyond the neighborhood. it goes to connecting the southeast to the large part of san francisco, wake up, we're out here. we want bike paths, dog parks, open space. we no longer want to have a neighborhood or a reputation of a crime-filled community. the other thing that i learned is really, we are all human. how to connect with that spirit, whether you're living in public housing, owning your own property, your asian, african american, we are all one. we are a community. when we realize and move in the direction of being a human's and having this human experience, connecting together, really be each other's keeper, then san francisco begins to drive. i also learned through the endorsement process -- you go through this process to get end

livable for everyone. >> let's talk about the role of sports in the city's economic future. are you happy with the plans for the america's cup? do you think the city should try it spend money to keep the 49ers? supervisor mar: did not get me started. i could go on for a long time. i think america's cup will help the whole area. i think the organizing committee has a big task to raise a lot of private sector money so it does not impact negatively on our general fund, but i do think the deal crafted by a lot of the enforcement is a good deal will help a lot of the parts of the city that need the help. it is also a lot of gauging of community groups and the yacht club saying that they want to provide better boating opportunities and education for young people in the mission district or, hopefully, in the mission or other places. but i know that as the america's cup moves forward, there are many community-based groups that want to be part of it. we recently had communications from the parks council wanting to ensure the swimming and blue and green projects could be created with

livable wage so they don't have to go back. there's a lot of vocational training that is happening in the city. a lot of it is not connected to the job placement component. if you train someone with skills, you should have a job available to them for those skills that they're getting. i also wanted to tell you that we work in the trenches in bayview and the home of the largest concentration of ex-offenders. once again, the big boxes come in. they put in programs. and the small community-based organizations have to really use their own funds to get people into unions to pay for their tools, to give them clothing and attire to get to the job. and they don't even have transportation sometimes. so there's a lot of small things that can happen to get them tools, tooled up, booted, suited, transportation to all the construction jobs that are in their neighborhood. thank you. chairman mirkarimi: thank you very much. next speaker, please. anybody who else would like to speak? i've run out of yellow cards. just stand in the aisle, one after the other. thank you. >> thank you so much for the opportunity
