that's where news 4's megan mcgrath is this morning with more.morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, joe. talk about a close call. they finished their work of shoring up the house. you can see that they put some plywood over the hole that was in the side of the home, and they've stabilized it at this point, but it's going to be some time before this family is able to move back in. it's just a freak accident that happened around 12:30 this morning. a woman was driving an suv down aspen hill road. she lost control of the vehicle, hit a couple of parked cars, went through a chain link fence and into the averys' yard and literally into the house. now, three people were inside the home at the time that this happened, including one of the homeowners, who was literally in the room where the car came to a rest. she sustained minor injuries. she's going to be okay. a very, very scary situation. we spoke to keith avery, one of the homeowners. he was actually in one of the back bedrooms sleeping when this happened. and he still just can't believe this c

megan mcgrath is live in crystal city now with more. megan, good morning to you.hat's causing the spike this time? >> reporter: there are a couple different factors. it's certainly been like a yo-yyo-y yo-yo. the prices go up, they come down, go up, come down again. crude prices are on the rise. they look like they're heading toward the $100 a barrel mark. the crude is rising despite the fact the u.s. and other countries agreed to release millions of barrels of crude from their emergency reserves. the u.s. has agreed to release 30 million barrels. that sounds like a lot, but really, if you think about it, 30 million barrels is less than two days' worth of the domestic consumption in this country. it really is just a drop in the bucket. why are prices going up? there are a couple of different reasons. summertime, of course historically we see a demand increase, and that, of course, rises the prices. and also, the economies around the world are showing signs of improvement, which, of course, is good news, but one of the effects that happens here is that the demand f

megan. >> thanks so much. >>> it's not the type of thing that is supposed to happen. thousands out enjoying the fireworks at the inner harbor and all of a sudden, violence. abc2 news linda so is live to tell us what went wrong last night. linda. >> reporter: well, you will be hearing about the two incidents all day today. the first happened here by the water. if you look with me, that is great place to be a great place to watch the fireworks last night. right by pier 6 pavilion. mccormick and schmick's right here. but this is where police say right after the fireworks show, a man got into a fight with a group of people and he was stabbed in the neck. it happened just after the fireworks show ended last night at around 10. the man was taken to shock trauma but didn't survive. then in the separate incident, a 4-year-old boy was shot in the leg as he was standing with his dad at light and pratt streets after the fireworks ended. the boy's father heard a loud noise and the boy started to complaining his leg was hurt and that's when the dad realized his son had been shot.
