mr. genachowski to protect consumers and promoting economic growth. for the past two years ntia has been hard at work to conduct a broad assessment of how well our current framework is serving participants in the internet economy. we have focused on two key principles. you heard them from the other witnesses this morning. the first is the idea of trust. is imperative for sustainability and continued growth and innovation of the internet that we preserve the trust of all actors on the internet and nowhere is this clearer that in the context of consumer privacy. our second key principle is we want to encourage multistate colder processes to address these key policy issues. we want all stakeholders to deal with these issues in a way that allows flexibility, speed and the efficiency. we want to avoid delay and lack of quick response often associated with more traditional regulatory processes. the department issued a green paper on consumer data privacy which issued ten policy recommendations and asked for public input on a series of additional questions.
