the executive director of the nfl players association demora smith has called for a conference call at 8:00 p.m. eastern time. and it's quite possible that some action will be taken on behalf of the players during that call. now, of course, the players, if they are going to sign on to any collective bargaining agreement legally they must reconstitute their union which they disbanded in march when the initial collective bargaining talks or contract talks broke down. so they would have to take a vote on reconstituting their union, which has been disbanded for four months and then they would be able to sign on to this agreement. on that 8:00 p.m. conference call that they will, at least agree to the principles of what the nfl owners have laid out. news conference begin at any minute. >> i figure i have here. the big question is, when could they get started. do you have a way of knowing yet? >> well, they are saying that over the next couple of days that the owners and the players, everyone involved is going to be some sort of orientation. everyone has to get used to the new rules. people

and one objective observe worry have to give to warren smith, executive director of the nfl players' association lot of credit for keeping his side united over the last four months. >> andrew, do you see it that way? how do you see the deal shaping up? it's like a $9 billion business. it's a fight over what chunk of the pie the players get? as was pointed out, retiring health benefits, things that could leave injured players really in the lurch when things are hot? >> obviously, bottom line is always the bottom line and how much money is split among the two sides. that's the ultimate question. the revenue split is reportedly coming out. players had 59% of revenue, a billion off the top of the owners, worked out to about 50/50. owners didn't want to live with that 50/50. that was the big of the issue going into this. what appears to be coming out of this, about a 52/48 for ownership. what are they worth? about $200 million this year. a lot more later in the deal. that's on that side of the fence. the owners get a nice victory there. a lot of thing for the playerswe talked about health and safety.

the skittive committee of the nfl players association meets today in washington at 11:00 a.m.ey could vote to accept a tentative agreement that the owners approved. they are expected to vote and the associated press says two people familiar from the negotiations say an agreement has been reached. if the committee votes today and if they approve the deal and recommend ratification, then the 32 team representatives would vote. if they say yes the 4-month-old lockout could end. the training camps in the team's facilities could be open by mid week. but things seem to be on track. the owners reached an agreement dividing up the $9 billion in annual league revenues with 53% going to the owners, 47% to the players the next 10 years. the players took the weekend to look over the deal to decide how to go forward. alisyn: are there last-minute sticking points that could scuttle this whole deal? >> reporter: they wanted to be able to opt out of the contract in 7 years. preseason play is set to begin august 11 and the hall of fame game that was supposed to be played august 7 has been canc

yesterday, the nfl players association executive committee and representatives of all 32 teams met inn, however, they could not reach a decision on a proposed agreement. however, they appear to have resolved some of their major disputes, including at least a tentative agreement to give owners a larger piece of the league's $9 billion annual revenue pie, improvements in player safety and increased benefits for retired players. they are still reportedly trying to resolve exactly how they will settle three lawsuits that some of the players filed against the nfl when the talks began to break down back in march, patti ann. patti ann: if they reach a deal would they be able to avoid cancelling any games? >> reporter: well, the first game of the season, is on september 8th, the opening game, where the green bay packers are hosting the saints, but the pre-season is scheduled to begin august 7 with the bears taking on the rams. and, an agreement would almost have to be signed today, in order to get the training camps reopened, over the course of the next week and the players ready for that sch
