octavia boulevard, as wonderful as it is, does, i think, have some unintended consequences. this would require an assessment, especially as traffic intersects with the arteries. there is the traffic that we directs itself on to the smaller streets and alleyways that tries to navigate around the arteries because of how congested those arteries are, as people are looking to come off of octavia boulevard or go on as they are approaching the highway. it is important that there is some consideration for the residents and businesses in the area better starting to feel the full impact of traffic being redirected so that we have better traffic calming measures. second is the speed, the speed in which people are traveling is taking great notice, because in coming off of octavia and making pretty sharp turns, or from oh, turning left or right from octavia, -- or from oak, i think that speaks to a hazard that is not well check. there is a wonderful part the we inaugurated about four of 45 years ago -- four or five years ago. if somebody was driving fast and did not negotiate that left-

this is a look at octavia boulevard heading toward highway 101. news chopper 2 doing a good job showing the entire look. do not use the 101 freeway. all right, let's go and take a look at other parts of the bay because contra costa county is having another one of those mornings. we had a crash on highway 4. that's being cleared. we also have solano county a crash. then 80 westbound pinol and richmond slow traffic. live picture of highway 87. you can see that one lane is closed there. you can also see ktvu news crew, that white van there is showing us doing some reporting there from the scene. 87 large sink hole is going to be there for most of the morning. this is not a traffic problem right now because that's the noncommute direction. it's going to be closed for several hours, and it could become a traffic issue. in fact, people are avoiding 87 this morning using 85 and monterey road and there's a traffic jam on other freeways. people heard about this and there's traffic jams everywhere else. you can see there's 280 here as joe, the camera operat

the comparisons to the city, such as the central freeway octavia boulevard, study and development, wedo not have 13 years. we have the america's cup coming, with billions of visitors coming to the city. but this concerns itself with certain neighborhoods, much more than they did the entire city, even though this was a major drop. this is not just a neighborhood, this is a jewel of san francisco and the city. we have to look at this a little bit differently in my mind and a little bit more seriously. it is major in that aspect. what we do with this will be around with us for the next hundred years. they have mentioned to the transportation which is absolutely important. this is a failure, in my estimation. it does not work. i have not been an expert on transportation and i am and not about to tell them how to fix this. at the moment, transportation is not working. we are at the farmers' market 7:30 every saturday morning. they have elevated the parking but the underpinning is so bad that it has become this dangerous. that has been this way for a couple of years. validation in the parki

am so pleased to see this project come forward after serving 13 years on the central freeway-octavia boulevard task force. it finally got built. even that goes back a few years now. with the intent for these parcels to be activated. to see this come forward is fantastic. i certainly agree with commissioner moore as to the streetscape improvements. we are now seeing them all around town, some in dog patch that worked out very well. certainly ivy street can do it. i know our signage regulations are somewhat strict. perhaps there is a way to handle it that would not be a detriment to the neighborhood but would enhance another small business. commissioner antonini: i also am very much in favor of this project. i will also urge the sponsor to work with the adjacent neighborhood to see what we can do to help make their signage visible or maybe make some different signage visible. i did appreciate architect baker and the project sponsors coming by to show me this a while back. it is a little bit taller than some of the other things. i think if we could do something at the top of it, i like the articu
