it happened last night in pittsburg along the delta deanza trail. police say now say it was a targeted attack. ktvu's christien kafton has more detail. >> reporter: taketake a look. you can see there's still police tape. this area is still cordoned off. there is a heavy police presence. you can see that. they are getting an assist from pittsburg police. both agencies on the scene. pittsburg police say the victim in this case had an exten serve criminal history. pittsburg police were the first to respond to a shooting around:45 last night. investigators -- around 8:45 last night. paramedics found him with a gunshot wound. they were able to get him to the hospital. >> he's on life support. we don't expect him to make it much longer. >> reporter: pittsburg police say the victim may have been the target of a recent homicide attempt in antioch that's well known to investigators. >> our victim is a pittsburg resident, 0 0120 years ole, who has -- 20 years old, what has an extensive criminal history. >> reporter: sheryl smith runs the delta deanza trail re

police he is not a stranger to the pittsburg police department. >> our victim is a 20-year-old pittsburg resident who has an extensive criminal history including gun charges and drug- related charges. we do have some preliminary information during the investigation that suggests he was possibly shot at in the city of antioch a few days prior to this incident. >> reporter: pittsburg police are not releasing the victim's identity but are in the process of notifying his family. police are treating this as an attempted homicide investigation and believe that the man who shot the victim knew him. >> this is definitely not a -- this is definitely not a random act of violence. >> reporter: witnesses reported hearing gunshots at the park around 8:30 last night. no one saw what happened. [ pause ] >> reporter: the victim has a few addresses in pittsburg and may stay in a few places in antioch, as well. this is the third violent incident that occurred in or near the 15-mile trail in the last three months. but raman stresses that the trail is safe. >> our officers have increased patrols in the area

reporting live in pittsburg, christie smith. >> thank you very much. two men are in custody after a long car chase stretching from san pablo to fremont early this morning. p suspects in the car, carjacked a driver in san pablo, then fled. chp and other law enforcement agencies gave chase on southbound 880. the suspects drove to south fremont boulevard where they eventually crashed at an on ramp. police arrested two men in the car. a female in the car taken to the hospital. police are looking into a shooting and attempted robbery. one person went to the hospital. that shooting happened around 10:15 last night on chestnut street. two armed suspects tried to rob two people. the suspects ran away after the shooting and still on the loose. the victim is expected to survive. >> arson investigators are at a daly city elementary school. they think someone may have set a one-alarm fire at skyline elementary school. firefighters say the fire started outside of the back area of the school, then spread into a nearby reading lab. investigators have not yet ruled it

pittsburg police are still here investigating. they haven't spoken with us on scene but i can tell you that the shooting happened just down the trail beyond the police truck you see parked there. what they are telling me, i spoke with a dispatch wer the east bay regional parks. one man was found shot on the trail. they are not releasing his condition yet. but this occurred about a block away from a shooting last wednesday also on the delta de anza trail. 20-year-old victim who was shot in the head has died. both city police and park police saying they don't think that shooting was random and this latest shooting happened around 12 midnight. neighbors heard a gun fire. they called police and found a man down on the trail. there was another shooting on may 9, shot in a gang-related attack. we do have calls in to pittsburg police about a possible connection but the dispatcher i spoke with i asked if there were any arrests or suspect information and he said no. reporting live in pittsburg. >> richmond police trying to figure out how i

ktvu's kraig debro joins us now from pittsburg where there was another shooting on the delta trail overnight. >> reporter: good morning, pam. this happened just north of railroad avenue on the trail. you can see behind me there's one patrol car here and there were two other east bay regional park police cars down in either side of the trail flanking the trail. i spoke to an officer here and he says that's because police want to prevent people who have gates that lead to the trail from coming out their back gates and possibly contaminating evidence at the crime scene here. i just got off the phone with a regional park police dispatcher and he tells me they received a call from the county sheriff's office around 6 minutes to midnight. the report a man had been shot. the unidentified man is now being treated at gonomery medical center for his injuries. we don't know the extent of his injuries. still trying to get that information from police. for some this trail is becoming less safe every day. a man shot in the back ahead along the trail at atlantic avenue in harbor just last week died over th
