i am amos brown.re you, i say to you in the words of our former president william jefferson clinton, that you may rest assured that if you ever see a turtle up on the stump, you better know that he or she did not get up there by himself or herself. i am here today because of the love and support of my wife, jane brown, members of third baptist church who are here in the audience, and my fraternity brothers. brother eric johnson has -- brother harry johnson has been the moving spirit behind this occasion. i am here today because there are many persons who labored with me in this movement that we celebrate today for human dignity, decency, freedom and peace. but more importantly, i stand before you today because as schoolmate julian bond referenced, dr. king taught only one class in his lifetime. that was the morehouse college 1961- the semester's of 1962. we sat in a seminar in social philosophy, and i am delighted to say to you that dr. king and rose to that great position of teaching because he had a

i also want to recognize reverend amos brown, former supervisor, and police commissioner angela chan is in the audience as well. there are some other commissioners, here, too. governor brown signed legislation of assembly bill 109 that redirects a percentage of low level adult offenders convicted of non-serious, non- reviling, and non-sexual offenses back to california counties. estimates indicate that san francisco will need to supervise approximately, and the number seems to be fluctuating, but approximately 700 additional prisoners and probationers that any given time through its jail system and probation or reentry programs. part of preparing to receive these additional inmates, san francisco, like all other counties in california, are now in the process of making plans and following the state-ordered requirements, because that requirement commences in october of this year. it has been noted that the agencies in san francisco affected by this change have done an excellent job in preparing, in recent months, including adjusting their budgets in san francisco. the mayor has also rat
