this is in the same time frame that iran's president relayed the information to ann curry. ann is on the phone and broke the story and following it closely ever since. what can you bring us up to speed on this? >> well, iranian officials have not confirmed the report of the associated press that a plane has been sentb to iran in this effort to release the jailed americans, the two americans who were caught hiking and releasing them on bail. however, it is very interesting to hear that the planes may already be on the way, because for a plane to be on the way, it would already have to have the support of government. i would have to have clearance for it to even have taken off for iranian air space, so if this is true, it would indicate that whatever chaos has been behind the scenes, and whatever disgruntled negotiations have been going on behind the screens between the judiciary and the government of president ahmadinejad, that it is simmering down and we are moving to the completion of that effort to calm that down. currently, officials in iran are still saying that our sou

throughout his interview with ann curry and his trips around the provinces with ann curry he wanted to portray a much softer image of himself. and from their perspective this is the way to do it. thomas? >> and when we talk about the fact that this could be happening within 48 hours have we heard anything more from ahmadinejad's administration about how quickly this will happen? what are the next steps now that this has made international news? >> well, there are a few steps. i spoke to the lawyers of the hikers and he said that they're going to have to post $500,000 each because they're not being pardoned. their case has gone to an appeals court tan's still being looked at judges in an appeals court so they're going to have to post the bail. president ahmadinejad did say a couple of days but in iran a couple days doesn't necessarily mean 48 hours. it could be shorter. it could take longer. but it definitely looks like they're on the road to go home, thomas. >> certainly a big relief to their families back here in the states as well as to sarah shour. thank you. >>> president obama is

in that interview with ann curry, they gave the surprise news that these two guys may be free in the next couple of days. more importantly than that in my opinion and here when i go-go to speak to the lawyer of the two hikers, he told us about this bail. he was the first person to tell us about this half million dollar bail for the two hikers. this was the most encouraging sign. the judiciary is extremely powerful and the ultimate decision lies in their hands. we know the president were to try to release the short according to him. it didn't happen in the timing he wanted. the judiciary didn't let it happen. now they are saying half a million dollars bail is a dead certainty. we have to see when it's going to happen. two days in iran may not be 48 hours, but it will be imminent. hopefully the guys will be back home in good health. >> in the interview with ann curry, the president also said something about prisoners being held in america. is he trying to negotiate here or is it truly on humanitarian conditions that they may be released? >> you are absolutely right. he always mentioned
