legislation as a district-elected supervisors, even though this is legislation that impacts the entire city in the future of health care in san francisco for many years to come. i think it is possible to do both. it is definitely possible. >> let's talk about budgets. the city is faced with tough budget decisions. including where to make cuts and whether or not to increase taxes. how will he make these tough choices -- will you make these tough choices? supervisor campos: the budget is the most important policy document that the city can pass. it reflects the priorities of city government. i believe we have to be creative in how we look at the issue of the budget. it is important for me that certain things happen. i think that public safety has to be a priority in the budget, the public safety cannot be compromised to save a few dollars. but i think the public safety goes beyond funding the police department and the fire department, as important as that is. it includes funding violence prevention programs, after- school programs so someone has -- and people have something to do after school

high number of families in this district, yet, we only have less than 1% of park lands for the entire city. let me share with you a little bit about my personal story. like i said before, i live, like, three blocks away. our family has grown. i had a nephew who is 5 years old. just like my nephew, there are thousands of families in the mission that have no access to open spaces. my nephew is a very active little guy who likes to play and likes to go out and be out in the spaces, but there's not a lot of clean and healthy spaces for him, like many other children in the mission, for them to go out and practice and do any sports. with this, i want you to think about all the families in the mission that have been waiting for this moment. let's make it work for all the families in the mission. i am here to ask you to please transform the city-owned parking lot on 17th and folsom into a green space and affordable housing so that innocent children like my nephew and my own family can have a healthy and accessible place to live, work, and plate. this is your opportunity to do the right thing and p

and as a lot of people have come up and said, the mission only has like 1% of the park in the entire city. and i find that to be rather ridiculous considering how dense the, you know, the population is there. and when i'm walking around the city with all my friends, i'm walking around seeing these kids, like, playing in the streets. you know, fausing a football in the middle of traffic -- tossing the football in the middle of traffic. it's dangerous because they don't have these parks, these areas to play in. you know, it's just -- it's kind of sad to see that. these kids don't have anywhere for themselves. it's not something that benefits these kids. like you saw in some of the pictures, there was like equipment for older people and it helps parents, you know, go out and take their kids out and have them be able to play in this open space and so they're not stuck in their house for the entire day. so that's really what i'm here for, just to ask for your support and taking this lot so we can do something about it and make it something that would really help our community in the area. than
