i am not an expert on caltrain. i am sure supervisor elsbernd probably has more insight on that than i do. but when i know there will be a couple of cut out so if a caltrain vehicle broke down, the high-speed rail vehicle could go around it. but that would only be in a few areas, so there are significant stretches on the peninsula where if a caltrain vehicle broke down, that would just gum up high-speed rail. i do not know how realizable those are or what that experience is. -- i do not know how reliable those cars are or what the experiences. i thing this is a once-in-a- lifetime kind of opportunity. >> if i may, that is exactly the kind of pushed that we need on policy issues like this. let me clarify that the position that we have been an evolving on this is only intended to throw some technical light on these issues you are mentioning. because we believe that pushing for the final system that needs to be in place in 2050, and pripet -- pretend the only way to get high-speed rail is to have that, and that is pote

together, with the valley transportation authority in the south bay, caltrain, the county of san mateo, the city of redwood city, we applied for a grant with the air district being the grantee. we were having to get a $4.3 million grant. the air district will also be putting another $1.3 million of their own money. then all of the local partners are bringing in various amounts of match and in kind staff. this is just to show visually all of the participating jurisdictions lining up along the caltrain corridor. our plan now is to launch in spring 2012. the overall pilot is 1000 bikes at 100 stations. half of those are coming to san francisco. we have identified a pilot direct service area that stretches from van ness down to the waterfront. and from mission bay in the south as far as pier 39 in the north. station placing will vary somewhat more throughout the introductory area, but we are aiming for more less one station every two to four blocks. this shows a map of the proposed pilot area. i think i've said enough on that one. aside from this pilot area, 500 bikes, we feel san francisc

ace, caltrain, ferries, everything else looks good. out of downtown san jose on the roads still a couple headlights approaching the 880 interchange. roadwork in san jose on north- and southbound 880 between 280 and old bayshore highway. north bay, coming off of the golden gate bridge into the city, looks great. they have not done the lane change yet. so quiet. there is some roadwork between novato and san rafael. various lanes blocked, should be wrapped up by 6:00 or earlier. and the milpitas commute westbound 237 silicon valley commuters you should have no issues this morning heading into san jose. you can see this live picture near 880 and 237. so pretty quiet towards zanker road typically closer towards 7:00 we start to see delays. westbound 580 usually one of our first spots to back up. so far, so good past the wind turbines through livermore towards vasco road. and highway 4 same thing no big deal here heading through antioch. you will find one lane closed eastbound highway 4 at bailey. they are doing that ongoing roadwork in the

bart, ace, muni and caltrain and your ferries all on time. slow along 4 westbound loading up working your way through antioch. gets better past the pittsburg area. you can see traffic, lots of green as you work your way westbound highway 4. companies like like that all the way towards the eastshore freeway. with eastshore freeway no delays westbound, 19 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the maze. towards the bay bridge toll plaza, you can see traffic starting to load up just a bit at the pay gates. looks like at least beyond the caltrans parking lot there. still no metering lights though not too bad though once you hit the upper deck and work your way into san francisco. now, the lower deck checking in problem-free. later on though there is some roadwork planned between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. looks like they will change between the right and left lanes there so plan for that. live look at the san mateo bridge, both directions looking good, 13 minutes between 880 and 101. 101 checking in problem-free. 101 throughout marin county accident-free. t
