stephanie chuang johns us from stevens canyon road about a mile away from the scene.teph, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's actually stevens creek boulevard and foothill where this is all blocked off. apparently there was a workplace shooting just a mile down at the lehigh permanente cement plant/quarry. we just right now spoke with someone who works there who says that every day the day site shifts starts at 4 a.m. and every day has a morning safety meeting and that is where we believe and when we believe this shooting happened. he says he actually has a fren who was at that meeting named manny who he is very concerned about. lots of folks concerned. also spoke with someone whose father works there, she is not sure if he was at the meeting. this is a mile at the cement plant/quarry where someone pulled out an assault rifle and handgun and shot six people in all, two dead. four others possibly critically injured. we did see a total of five ambulance with their lights and sirens on this morning and then just another one about 15 minutes ago pull up indicati

clarked for supreme court justice john paul stevens. has the strong support of both her home state senators. she's had senator schumer praise her intellect and accomplishments. half the republicans on the judiciary committee joined all democrats in voting for her. now some of the committee raised concerns about her qualifications, citing her rating by a minority a.b.a. standing committee as not qualified. i would note the majority rated her as qualified. i would also note that her a.b.a. rating is equal to or better than the rating we see by 33 of president bush's confirmed judicial nominees, including one that had an initial rating unanimously of not qualified. they were supported by nearly every republican senators and voted for them. there's no question we should confirm her. 27 former supreme court courts in support for her qualifications including current clerks who have worked for very some conservative republican justices. they wrote that although we hold a wide range of political jurisprudential views, all of us believe that ms.

john waggoner will die in prison. a judge gave him a life sentence plus 20 years. for the murder of steven stephen pitcairn, a johns hopkins researchers stabbed it death. since the beginning, pitcairn's family have said little in public. they left the courthouse without commenting. >> i think they're happy with the verdict. it's hard for them because they have it move -- to move on with their lives at this point, without their son and brother am. >> reporter: pitcairn's mom was on the phone with him at the time of the attack. she called waggoner an eeferl man who doesn't belong in society after such a senseless, disgusting tragedy. she said, i would never want another family to bear the horror we have been through. >> reporter: waggoner addressed the court, too, and pitcairn's family. even moments before he was sentenced are he maintained his nbc. -- innocence. >> reporter: waggoner said i don't believe justice was served because there is still a killer out there. he said, i can't apologize to the family because i am not responsible. >> i'm glad he got what was coming to him. >> reporter:
