romney's comments follow a report from nbc news michael isikoff released yesterday that revealed the ex-pent to which the obama administration consulted with the architects of romney's health care law when developing their legislation. "the records gleaned from white house visitor logs reviewed by nbc news show senior white house officials had a dozen meetings in 2009 with three health care advisers and experts who helped shape the health care reform law signed by romney in 2006. one of those meetings on july 20th, 2009, was in the oval office and presided over by president barack obama, the records show." hours before last night's debate, a reporter asked romney to respond to the report that his aides advised the obama administration on health care reform. >> actually i don't believe they were aides. they're people who were consultants and so forth. i'm sure the president got lots of ideas but the one person he should have talked to that he never talked to was me. if he had talked to me, i would have told him the plan he was crafting wouldn't work. >> bun of governor romney's health

michael isikoff, nbc news national investigative correspondent joins us now. this breakfast, and why is this guest list so important? >> well, it kind of vividly illustrates the how romney has become the establishment candidate for the republican party. what we had was a lot of members of congress, including quite a few committee chairman, darryl i, is a chairman of the house oversight government reform committee, the chairman of the house armed services committee, mike rogers, chairman of the house intelligence committee, were all co-hosts of this fund-raiser, but what was actually more interesting than the multiple congressional sponsors was this lineup of about a dozen super lobbyists who represent an array of corporate interests ranging from the american petroleum institute, at&t, verizon. it's hard to find a major corporate interests whose lobbyists were not sponsors of this event and as one of those lobbyists said to me, you know, today. what this signifies is the establishment coalescing behind romney. all of these lobbies are going to go out, hit up the

let's bring in national investigative correspondent, michael isikoff. >> was that a signal, you think, that rick perry is going for gun lobby support? >> o absolutely. that was a piece of touching by gravy, perhaps, but also very this shrewd politics. this could be a sleeper issue in a lot of very key gop primary states. if there's any constituency in -- among republican primary voters, that is passionate, that is committed and publicly involved, it's the gun lobby. rick perry has a longstanding relationship with the gun lobby, support from the nra. he got over half a million dollars from the nra. he sent a video in which he said that in his view gun control is hitting what you're aiming at and then showed him firing at the firing range. and why that's so smart? this is, again, one issue that mitt romney is vulnerable on in massachusetts. he supported an assault weapons ban, something the gun lobby is fiercely opposed to. he supported the brady bill waiting period for gun buying. so there's -- and there's also, remember, the whole issue that came up the
