oakland protest are are gone right now. they move to close occupy oakland.has moved to snow plaza. what's happening over tl? >> good morning to you, jon. you can see if you look up there to the right, police have that intersection. that's 19th and harrison blocked off. 10 to 15 protesters in here. it's hard to see in the dark. police came in 15 or 20 minutes ago and removed these protesters as well. farce the situation here goes at snow park, officers tell me it's secure. it's a matter of taking the protesters out of here and perhaps doing a clean up of the snow park. contrast this to what took place two hours ago where there was overwhelming force. one has been set up for two weeks now within 30 to 45 minutes. what was noteworthy is how smooth the process was. one protester lit off a snoek bomb. a couple of bottles thrown in the direction of police. other than that, not much in the way of a physical confrontation. the arrests were made. they took them hand in hand without resisting. many protesters left before the police pushed into the tent cit city. >> bo

oakland protest organizers plan a general assembly at 6:00 this evening. >>> the oakland protestors are rallying around an iraqi war veteran. 24-year-old scott olsen of daly city among the protestors when he was hit in the head with some kind of projectile that happened on tuesday during one of the raids. friends contend it was a tear gas canister that was hurled by the police. now, olsen is in critical condition in an oakland hospital with head injuries and swelling on the brain. acting police chief howard jordan says internal affairs is now investigating as are the alameda county district attorney's office and two other agencies. >>> oakland voters are not happy with mayor quan's handle of the protests. that's according to a cbs 5 poll. 72% said they don't approve of the way she is handling the situation. only 20% approve. as for the oakland police department's response, 56% said officers were too harsh with the protestors while 11% said they were just not harsh enough. 30% said the opd's response was just about right. >>> "occupy wall street" demonstrators in new york city have now t

in oakland, ktvu, channel 2 news. >> oakland mayor, gene kwan was out of town when police cleared out the encampment. our team coverage continues with amber lee. >> reporter: julie, oakland mayor, gene kwan is coming under heavy criticism for being out of town when the violent confrontation took place here in downtown oakland, between police and protesters. at city hall this afternoon, mayor gene kwan, flanked by the police chief and city administrators, met with reporters for the first time, since she left for a business trip. >> when i got on the plane, things were pretty peaceful. when i got off, it was very different. >> reporter: kwan told us she was back in oakland around 10:40 last night. a source told us, the mayor was never at the emergency operations center last night. this oakland resident said she used to protest alongside kwan for social change, decades ago in berkely. she says the mayor's absence is disappointing. >> it's from somebody who's been a progressive. i just don't understand that. so it's like betrayal times two. >> i think it was a big misstep, given the whole

oakland. and police were ready with their riot gear. although the are protest was pretty peaceful. the march was pretty peaceful. there were reports however, of protesters, some protesters breaking some parking meters and also breaking some window, and spraying buildings with anti-police slogans and police have not had that much of a presence here at the plaza. and they really didn't confront people during that march. but for the fire department, it has been a different story. and the firefighters have been here every day, performing four inspections. since fire hazards were a main concern before that camp was raided on tuesday. and now protesters obviously have big plans for this wednesday. they have been talking about it for several days. a citywide strike is in the works. and they've gotten numerous employees on board. including members of the labor counsel. and the longshoremen and warehouse union and members of the teachers union. and they have three mass gatherings planned for wednesday

and he got shot in the streets of oakland. >>reporter: olson was unresponsive and had to be interest baited when he arrived at the hospital and now is communicateing in writing and breathing on his own. doctors are hopeful he will make a full recovery despite fractured skull and major swelling on the left side of the brain. >> that swelling pushes the nerves together and makes it not function as well. writ now that portion of his brain not functioning as well is his ability to speak. other than that, he's fine. >>reporter: the hospital says hundreds of people from around the world have called to wish olson well. new so-called faith of the up movement here in the bay area seem to be taken aback by his new role. >> he is surprised at the interest when we share with him that the world is watching. >>reporter: but the people of the up movement are not surprised. they say olson is an inspiration and they hope he will inspire those who have yet to join the demonstration. >> his life is on hold because he stood up for what he believe

a lot of oakland fire crews are on the scene.ou can see how this cloud, if you're anywhere in the east bay, now you're probably wondering what's going on. we just got a report of this about 15 minutes ago. it's building on fire on west street. when the crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flame and immediately declared it a working fire. we're not sure if anyone is injured. we're based in oakland and just minutes away. one of your crews is minutes away. we're going to find out more as you head to the interchange. so far we don't have any major traffic delay reported by this fire. let's go to the toll plaza. nice pretty sunrise and decent picture of the 15 minute delay. if you're on the peninsula, it's a nice drive heading south to the south bay. >> some of those higher clouds making for and enhancing that sunrise. we do have these in the morning. i think it will clear out to a mostly sunny day and high clouds. overall it's not going to stop temperatures from warming up. we have a lot of temperatures in the 80s after everything

back to the city of oakland and another live look at what's happening. this is what's happening right on the ground. as you can sort of take a closer look inside this crowd, there is some action happening. we understand the protesters have knocked down about 100 yards of fence and unlike last night, the police really aren't that visible. remember, last night they were just about everywhere. we are told, though, that the police are staging elsewhere in case they're needed. this picture that we're showing you is happening right now, about 100 yards of fence taken down in the past few minutes. this is the latest development in a day of tension between protesters and police. earlier this evening we heard from the police chief and the mayor speaking for the first time after last night's very rowdy event. protesters say they will not give up. they will return to the plaza and they say they will claim it as theirs. this is all because of the occupy wall street movement that's filtered into oakland around across the country. what you see here is at 14th and broa

at the occupy oakland encampment.e will go back live to the plaza where charles clifford is monitoring the situation. >>reporter: we are live right in front of oakland city hall. as you said the protesters have moved back into the plaza. about 20 minutes ago they had been rallying at the amphitheater and talk about what happened last night in the night before. they also talked about where they wanted to go from here. if you look behind the oak tree, there are a dozen tents that are set up. a few of those reappeared after the oakland city police went through and clear them out. here in the last 45 minutes to an hour more people have started showing up. we do not know if there will be more people coming in. usually about 6:00 p.m. is when the bulk of the protesters have showed up. but everything is extremely peaceful they have been sitting there quietly listening to the speaker's. but there is none of that energy that we saw with in the last couple of days. we do not know if it will escalate beyond this it seems to be g
