i'm next going to introduce our director of public health, barbara garcia. [applause] >> good morning, everyone. i am so honored and i'm so proud of the department's staff. i get a lot of travel requests and it's to peru and mozambique and tanzania and at the bottom it says how much it costs and it's usually zero and those are the ones i like to sign but it really does. and i want to just acknowledge the d.p.h. aids office staff, please raise your hands, because you clearly -- [applause] >> some of you, in culmination of years, i know you have hundreds of years of experience here and i know that is so, so important and we've done some incredible work in san francisco and you've taken your work and your understanding of this disease to other parts of the world and it makes such a big difference for everyone in the world, particularly around ending this disease. you're doing aids planning and my job as the principal investigator is to help with space planning. this is a 100-year-old building and we were in all kinds of spaces and i want to acknowledge the staf

in my opinion, barbara garcia is doing a good job and in a certain sense, i don't think too many people have missed dr. katz recently. in summary, i think that this is a good resolution. i think that they're doing a good job. thank you. >> thank you. >are there other members of the public that wish to speak on item number 5? we have a motion to move forward with recommendation and a second and we will do that without objection. item number six please. >> item number six, ordinance approved in the second amendment to the contact between the city and county of san francisco and at the united states, through the department of energy western area power administration, for delivery of low-cost power and scheduling coordinator services to treasure island and the yerba buena island. >> we bring to you today the second amendment to our existing contract with the western area power administration for providing full load services to treasure island. the treasury currently provide services to treasure island and yerba buena island. the puc entered into an agreement with the department of energy fo

and we're together going to come as a community and that's barbara garcia. [applause] so she does not know this but today we would like to celebrate her. as -- she doesn't even know i'm connected to her and in the '80's, she worked in watsonville and worked in getting people who didn't have food, food. and for a very short time, i was a child teenager, let's say. i was a teen in the early '80's and we didn't have food. we were there a few months doing migrant work and i was there hungry. because of a project she had done as a child she didn't even know, my family had food. this is the type of person i can believe in because for all of these years, she continued to say, you need food. let's get you that. you need health care, let's get you that. so today i'm going to have one of our other volunteers for the garden we have. how many of you know about ph.d. garden? a few of those. this is one of my favorite things. another thing barbara believes in is sustainable food, having a safe place people can come to every single day and being in a space, be comfortable.

doing a great job as our moderator and for the entire panel, i had the opportunity to work with barbara garcia for 16 years at the health department and heard her very compelling story about the response to loma prieta. so really happy that you were here and each and every one of you were able to provide very unique perspectives that began to give us the whole picture of what a full community response looks like. i'm sure you'll join me in giving a big hand to our panel. [applause] i don't know about you all but i think this was a wonderful opportunity to share ideas this morning, to see old friends, meet new friends and really continue this dialogue which is so important in our recovery. there will be more of this in the future. thank you all for coming and encourage you all to be prepared and to think about our response and our working together. thank you very much. have a great day.
