we're told that was la toya jackson that we heard screaming, shouting out, as the verdict was read. i want to bring in dan abrams, our legal analyst, right now. you heard the verdict. it is guilty. what does this mean in terms of the future now of conrad murray? >> well, he could face up to four years in prison now. but i don't think anyone expects he would serve anything like that in terms of a sentence. >> so up to could be as short as -- >> if this were not a high-profile case, i would say he might get something like 90 days, but because of the profile of this case, i think that you're talking about something more like six months to a year. >> eight and a half hours of deliberation. does that surprise you? it came so quickly. >> short deliberation. remember, the prosecutors presented an enormous amount of evidence about how badly dr. murray behaved here. even the defense by the end was conceding he did things he shouldn't have done, he should have done things he didn't do et cetera. but the problem was for the prosecutors, can they necessarily prove beyond a reasonable doubt that

crowd growing since the time that word got out that the jury had reached a verdict and seeing la toya jacksonichael's sister pulled up in her black car and the crowd began scramming and yelling and chanting, justice for michael. they have been very supportive of the jackson family. the family has been in court at least some of them every day of this trial over the past six weeks. they vowed to be here and they have been. his parents, joe and katherine and la toya just arrived. janet jackson was staying down there and not returning for the verdict, but they are in the courtroom and waiting to hear if conrad murray has arrived here. we have that staked out and watching for him as well to arrive with the attorneys. we are less than 15 minutes away from hearing what the jury decided. people continuing to arrive and wanting to know if the jury has convicted the man that they at least blame for michael jackson's death. >> thank you very much and do stay with us. the prosecution sought to show that dr. murray agreed to treat jackson's insomnia with a procedure many other doctors flat out refused. le

la toya jackson, michael jackson's sister, let out a shriek even though we were all warned no to make any type of reaction to the verdict. but on the other side of the courtroom, anderson, was conrad murray and his family and friends. conrad murray, when that verdict was read, anderson, he did not react at all. he sat there stone faced staring at the bench and the judge. what was interesting, the next thing the judge did was dismiss the jury and he sentenced conrad murray, told him to go straight to jail even though the defense said he's not a flight risk. but the judge said he's now a convicted felon. this was a homicide even though it was a lower class of a felony. it still was a homicide. he could be a danger to the public. he'll stay in jail until his sentencing november 29dth. but the most bizarre moment was when he was handcuffed. the court proceeding was not done yet and hes was handcuffed even while he's sitting in his chair. even the judge said, let's wait a minute. as he left, his mother was in the courtroom, his daughter was in the courtroom. he gave them a nod and his girl

as for the jacksons, there was an audible reaction from la toya jackson and/or kathy hilton who were sitting together. but for the most part, the jacksons were somber. they did however exchange hugs after the jury left the room with david walgren, the lead prosecutor who did an outstanding job in this case. mrs. jackson stopped and hugged the prosecutor before she left the courtroom. murray now has been taken to the l.a. county jail. he will be there until he is sentenced. on the 29th of this month. >> and watching that at the very end as the judge was wrapping up the proceedings, it was interesting to watch the deputies handcuff dr. murray while he was still seated in the chair. normally they wait for him to stand up as the proceedings are ending. back on the 29th, sentencing then. that is the issue, right? he faces up to four years in prison. are there any other questions to be answered between now and that next court appearance? >> reporter: the big question is the state of southern california broke. a lot of nonviolent offenders are getting light sentences because of that. and or

it was la toya jackson and kathy hilton, they were sitting basically next to each other.the verdict was announced, you could hear it over the audio transmission, but i could definitely hear it right behind me and in the courtroom it was very loud. other than that, the jacksons didn't make much in term of a noticeable reaction right away. there were 17 family members, the most we've seen all day. but a poignant moment came late after the jury had left. david walgren, the lead prosecutor in the case gave a hug to jermaine jackson and then to mrs. jackson. you could tell that they were very, very appreciative of their work, the district attorney's work in this case. >> the maximum sentence is four years, and there's also this whole issue of whether he can carry on practicing as a doctor. what are you anticipating will be the outcome here? >> well, his medical license in each of the states where he practices will have to be dealt with by those medical board. the court of law has no control over that. the california medical board has already indicated they'll suspend his licen
