we don't think the school board understands or knows who marshall as a community is. it's been said already here tonight. may not be the biggest school. we may not have the political clout of other schools. we may not even be in the top 10 or 15 choices when parents decide to send their kids to school, but we are a family. we are a close community that cares about our families and kids and works very closely to ensure we provide a safe learning environment. we are not blind to occupy our school. in closing, we wonder why the board didn't consider how this move would have impacted the safety of our children and that is just an irresponsible decision in our opinion. hopefully tonight you hear what is being said and make sure no other school goes through the stress that you put us under and that every school feels that you have their best interests at heart in the interests of the holidays, let me please give you a friendly reminder of who you serve. you serve the parents and the children of this community. you do not serve the mayor. thank you very much. [applause] efrian hernandez, 16, takes part in the youth development boxing club where he helps his peers build confidence and discipline. he is often seen encouraging others to push themselves harder and not give up, proving to be and our role model. [applause] [applause] evira ziayz, 18, a career counselor with lyric and has worked hard to build partnerships. she motivates other young people to be their best while demonstrating respectful and responsible leadership wherever she is. [applause] [applause] gerald is at inner-city youth where he incurred as other people to be leaders. gerald is also praised for his perseverance and compassionate speaking out against violence. he recently completed the program at city college where he focused on green technology and will soon transferred to louisiana

our major of the month is some third marshall academic high school. [applause] janet is a special education counselor and a teacher and works with the community access training, teaching severely impaired 18 from 22-year-old students to become independent -- in and attended skills and job training. when her students are in the community doing these activities, jet and her staff will take them to art museums, fitness centers, special events, theater, and anything wonderful that the theater has to offer. this helps them learn how to access the city, find out places that they can go once they leave sfusd, and find places they can go out with their friends once they're on their on. she has also been the primary " soccer, basketball, and track and field tenements when her students participate in the special olympics. please congratulate janet from thurgood marshall. were in town the last few weeks and two of the cast members, iris wilson and melony marshall spoke at burton high school and balboa high school so our students had an opportunity to meet with broadway actors and that was really cool. i want to congratulate richard heron and his corral collaborative project, chosen by the white house, to sing at the tree lighting ceremony so they leave on friday. he's bringing 23 of our kids to the white house for three days and they're singing on december 19, and that's really an honor and privilege to be able to do that. there is a snow park that's being built in front of city hall and that's going to be open to all of our students, all of the children in san francisco, both saturday and sunday and there's an open house at city hall from 11:00 to 3:00 so that all of the supervisors and the mayor opening their offices for our families to visit. i want to congratulate the principals who participated in the mustache for kids, thank you so much for all the money you raised for your schools and awareness you raised for the need for more funding for our schools and i want to

school year. they are at thurgood marshall right now as well as philip burton. mondays and tuesdays, two hours a day, tutorials on thursdays. youth have the a opportunity to earn up to the $599 stipend. we will start that with the second semester. this semester, we are doing tutorials stuff, goal-setting stuff. we're heavily incentivizing the program. there will be field trips. we will feed them everyday. we're working in conjunction with the school district at both sites. staff has attended curriculum training from the district. tutors have received training. we realize and recognize the fact that if we are going to make this work and continue for the success, we need to be closely intertwined with the district and their goals and what they're doing with their students each day. a couple of charts and graphs to put in this, i did e-mail a final report to members of the school board as well as implementation committee. i can also send a copy as well. a couple of questions that were asked when i presented when we first had begun the program was the ethnicity. we
