here now political consultant michael reagan, chairman of the reagan group. od morning. alisyn: so one of the things that's so interesting about this new gallup poll is that more democrats, they've seen a spike among democrats who fear big government. it's gone from 32% two years ago to 48% now. and, of course, republican numbers have also gone up. what do you think is going on? >> well, what's going on is you have a president who has been a big cheerleader for big government. look at last week. just a week ago the president of the unite was saying what? -- of the united states was saying what? that extending the payroll tax would create more jobs than, in fact, him supporting the keystone pipeline to bring oil into the united states of america that would create 20,000 shovel-ready jobs, if you will. that's the image the president of the united states is putting out there. and these numbers for the president of the united states, we know the republicans are going to be with the big government, they're going to be against that. but to see that the democrats hav

megyn: joining me now, michael reagan, chairman of the reagan group and political consultant. l, thank you for being back with us. so you saw one after the other yesterday of these gop presidential hopefuls coming out, making this a significant issue. and then last night on "special report" charles krauthammer came out and put it this way. he said, it is egregious what the defense secretary said about get back to the damn table. the quote is get itself to the damn table, saying that israel needs to do that, saying this administration is, quote, blaming the victim. your thoughts. >> well, absolutely right. charles krauthammer's right, the republican possible nominees were all right yesterday when they gave that talk yesterday at the reagan center there in washington d.c. you might remember that my father as solid as he was for israel only garnered about 40% of the jewish vote in the united states. that was huge at the time. think about this, barack obama in the last election got 78% of the jewish vote. and so you have the republicans stating the obvious. you have a president who

michael reagan is a political consultant and chairman of the reagan group.t consultants. strp joe biden had an op-ed where he talked about mitt romney, saying he would double down on the policies that caused the greatest economic calamity and accelerated a decades' long assault on the middle class. this will be the wait appears the president will pitch the stake for americans. it's not about the economy right now. it's are you for the rich or are you for the middle class. is that going to be effective? >> well, it seems they are the ones doubling down. they haven't realized none of their policies have in fact worked at all. $15 trillion in debt. it's interesting. they say the last three decades. that would make the as it to 90s. so they are -- so that would take us to the 80s and 90s, the 90s bill clinton was president of the united states working with newt gingrich to balance the budget there will be was welfare reform and the economy was churning along doing very, very well. he's take on everybody and putting himself out there likee is the savior. he said

here with his take on it, michael reagan with the reagan group. thank you so much for being here. newt gingrich has seen a big slide over the past just couple of weeks, i just want to show you the real clear politics average for gingrich. this is the rasmussen poll we showed, but look at the real clear politics back on december november 13th, he was at 10% in iowa. december 11th, 31%. with all of the real clear politics averages for the iowa polls, what's going on with the gingrich campaign? >> well, the debates moved him up and the $10 million worth of ads against him have, of course, moved him down. he hasn't helped himself, though, with organization, the fact that just a few days ago we found out that he didn't qualify in his home state of virginia for the ballot there, coming up on super tuesday. that really hurts someone who is trying to move ahead when they say that your organization isn't there to push you forward, they seem to back off feeling you don't have the organization to push you all the way to the finish line. so newt gingrich needs to shore up his organization if

i woke up this morning, turned on the tv and saw this half-hour program featuring michael reagan, the of the former president newsmax program, 30 minutes, airing all over the state, featuring newt gingrich. so he does have some friends out there who are trying to make a difference to see if they can pull him up in the polls in time for the caucuses. candy? >> our joe johns. joe, ron brownstein was just here. and he did note the number of folks out there who say they still haven't made up their minds about who they'll caucus for, so there certainly is room for gingrich to bring up those poll numbers. what's he -- realistically, what do the folks around him think he can pull in the caucus night on tuesday? >> reporter: well, you get the sense that people think this is still a bit wide open because you know and i know, there's a large percentage of people who make up their minds in the last couple of days, some who say they actually make up their minds on the day of the caucuses. so newt gingrich is pushing some buttons, too, because he knows people say they do not like negative advertis
