. -- solis. thank you very much for coming in.'m thrilled to have you in on a day when we have good news to report on the u.s. economy. is this the turnaround americans have been waiting for? >> you know, we have to base our figures on a month-to-month basis. but i will say that if you look back last year at this time, the unemployment rate was 9.8%. and since that time, in a 21 -month period, we've actually seen three million jobs created in the private sector. and sometimes that's lost upon people. but we do have to underscore we still have a stubbornly high unemployment rate. but we're doing much better than we did in the last recession. in part because of what the president set out by reducing payroll taxes, extending the unemployment insurance, that took place last year in december. we do it again, we can see numbers hopefully going down and job creation going up. and then we can truly see some changes. and i believe that the public is now on our side. saying why not move ahead and do this? >> ok. but 300,000 workers dropped

i'm mario solis. >>> now for another look at the weather, here is nbc meteorologist bill karins.d morning, once again, bill. >> good morning, lynn. lots going on with the big winter storm in the middle of the country, and now we've got a battle going on in areas of the east, where the cold air is trying to hold on, warm air is moving in at the same time. the cold front's going to keep new england dry today, because that's pushing to the south. that's dry air up there. but back here towards pittsburgh, just to the north of pittsburgh, we actually have reports of snow out there. pittsburgh itself right now just mostly rain, buts don't be surprised to see wet snowflakes mixing in early today. temperatures, though, will warm up nuenough, the roads will be fine around much of pennsylvania. 49 in pittsburgh. temperatures around new england will be on the cooler side, dropping throughout the day. it's pretty warm this morning. as the cold front goes through, we'll cool off. all that, troublesome weather's out here in kansas, we've got rain heading through much of the ohio valley. as far
