courthouse in northwest washington. news4's megan mcgrath was also there and joins us live with the latest. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that arrest was made back in may. and youtube video that came -- surfaced after the fact had many questioning whether the police went too far, whether they used excessive force. but this lawsuit is not about that. it is not about what the police did with respect to the disabled man in the wheelchair. this is a free-speech case. the aclu says the police violated the rights after witness when they arrested him when all he was doing was questioning what they were do g doing. the incidents was captured and posted on youtube. metro police are shown pulling a man from a wheelchair and throwing him to the ground. the officers said the disabled man was loud and belligerent. lawrence miller witnessed the incident and he was also arrested. miller says all he did was ask the police questions about what they were doing. >> i never saw any -- i did not assault anyone. i believe m

people lined up outside the salvation army in northwest washington this week where they were donating -- passing out 17,000 donated coats. they are part of the 20th annual share the warmth coat drive. hundreds of our viewers and local businesses spent all of last month cleaning out their closets to give to those in need. more than 460,000 coats have been collected since the program started. chief cathy lanier spoke to residents last night about a recent string of armed robberies in northwest washington. since the first of the year, there have been nine armed robberies within three miles of the tinley metro. the latest happened monday night. police are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. two weeks ago, three of the nine armed robberies happened on the same night within 30 minutes of each other. the victims were walking on quiet residential streets less than three miles apart. police believe the majority if not all of the crimes are related. they believe the crimes are being perpetrated by a group of two to three men. >> no more sleeping for occupy d.c. demonstrators at mcpherson square. during a hearing on capitol hill tuesday, the national park service director jonathan jarvis, admitted to allowing protestors to sleep in the park to help keep the peace. this contradicts a law which allows around-the-clock protests but prohibits camping in national parks. jarvis says park police officers will begin to enforce the no camping law here like they d

police are trying to stop a rash of robberies in northwest washington. officers held a public meeting last night to discuss their efforts. investigators received as many as seven cases in a 24-hour period in neighborhoods near western and connecticut avenues. most happened during evening hours. investigators say the thieves have stolen cell phones to keep victims from calling for help. >>> today marks 30 years since the tragic air florida plane crash in the washington area. this happened during a snowstorm, january 13, 1982, near what was then national airport. the runway had recently reopened, but the pilot had never flown in snow before and took off without inspecting the plane. that 737 crashed into the 14th street bridge and then ended up in the potomac river. 78 people died. rescuers managed to save five people including a flight attendant. >> wow, those images -- >> wow, hadn't seen that video before. difficult to look at. >> yeah. >>> it is now 4:37. 37 degrees. ahead on "news4 today," not responding well to threats, the warning the white house is

police say a german shepherd and another dog were running loose near 14th street in northwest washington. the german shepherd reportedly bit a man on the hand, arm, and leg while he was waiting for the bus. witnesses say at one point the german shepherd ran toward a daycare center and bit a man in a wheelchair. >> officers got flagged down as they were on routine patrol. he then noticed he had a victim that was bit several times by the daycare center. so as he was talking he noticed the dog a block away, you know, had to intervene with the dog who continued to attack other people. >> investigators say that when the officer tried to approach the dog it started to attack him. that's when he shot and killed it. three people were taken to the hospital with bite wounds. all the victims are expected to be okay. >>> 4:32. time for a first look at our forecast. another mild start to the morning, tom. >> and that's not going to last long. >> it was windy. >> colder as the day progresses. temperatures will continue to drop. winds are whipping up to around 40 miles per hour this morning. as we look
