ron paul is actually lead in jackson county. governor romney is running second. if the percentages stay up, he could make it up there. you get a dead heat. the breadth of the santorum performance is impressive winning in small rural counties with evangelical votes, winning in western part of the state that is conservative. where do you go from here? go back and look four years ago, mitt romney 25% then. mitt romney 25% now. almost the same number of votes. the orange here is mike huckabee. the reason you heard senator santorum smartly talking about the economy tonight in his acceptance speech more than the social issues, look at what happened to huckabee four years ago when he went to new hampshire. there are no evangelical voters in new hampshire. if you want to prove yourself in the next state, that's new hampshire. rick santorum quickly turning to the economy. in south carolina, a lot more evangelical voters here. very smart, very smart senator santorum tonight saying yes the social issues matter. he knows the campaign

and the thing that makes him different, ron paul different from a patrick buchanan insurgency or jesse jacksonstitution. and it's created a whole intellectual awakening among young people. they're publishing companies, their blogs, their nonprofits. it's something like the barry goldwater revolution and a fascinating change in the whole party. >> steve, tell me how to think about ron paul. >> i think he's both very significant and very insignificant at the same time. he's significant for the reasons you outlined. there's a long game here, and i think the long game in terms of the politics, presidential politics, isn't about ron paul, it's about rand paul. it's about the son from kentucky who has some advantages that ron paul doesn't have. he's a better communicator, he's made inroads into the conservative establishment that ron paul has failed to make, and he's shown certain ability to be sort of savvy politically. he's modulated the way he talks about foreign policy in a way ron paul won't, but a way that makes him more acceptable to the republican establishment. if you're ron paul, you know,
