it was transformed by the freeway development of the southern freeway in san jose avenue. -- and san jose area. -- avenue. you can see how the streets brought traffic into the area and created barriers between neighborhoods. san jose avenue and of course started as a train line and was widened over the years into an auto route. as part of the freeway building plan in the 1960's that was an entrance to the larger freeway call the mission freeway which would have extended through the mission district but was halted. we're left today with the san jose expressway which the plan addresses. the third issue is growth and change. while glen park is a pretty built-out area, there are fewer development sites and there's a lot of strong interest among residents about what will happen in those areas. i wish to make it -- they wish to make it compatible with existing area. to the general policy recommendations are to protect and enhance the character of the village, its workability. to resolve the challenges posed by the infrastructure projects. for example, san jose. to prioritize transit and ped

door and the threshold are hints of the gruesome crime scene inside this cozy home on johnson avenue in san jose's famed willow glenn district. it started friday night when police say the woman in the ambulance called police saying she had been attacked by a masked man with a machete. told investigators the same intruder murdered kirk. paramedics took her to the hospital where she was treated and released. by the next day, sjpd arrested her, she made up the story about the intruder and killed her with the machete. the neighbor was skeptical when he learned that she wasn't badly injured. >> it didn't sound believable. because from what i understand, hers wasn't life threatening. to me, that was a red flag. >> according to a profile, she immigrated from somalia in 196 as a nurse and studying to become a lawyer. the motive is unclear, but neighbors say the victim is the mother of the accused killer's girlfriend and they had past disagreements. the girlfriend spoke with detectives today, but declined an on camera interview. back at the house, someone layed a bouquet of flowers with simple message, res

san jose home. police were called to johnson avenue at 11:00 p.m. they say the attack was carried out with a ma -- ma -- machete type weapon. a woman was charged with murder. the motive for the murder and the relationship is under investigation. it's san jose's 39th homicide of the year. >> an arsonist or arsonists torched more than 16 cars last night, bringing the total of suspected arsons in los angeles to 44 in the last two days. a joint fire and police task force was created today to find those responsible. they're worried the arsonist will strike again tonight. here's the latest from l.a. >> by daybreak, the effects of last night's rampage were clearly evidence. the burned out carcasses of car after car. >> we want to get these sobs before the hurt somebody. >> this terrifying scene unfolded dozens of times. nearly all of them starting at car fires, which spread to homes and apartment buildings. firefighters scrambling to contain the damage. >> a fire like this cause terror. at it intentionally meant to make people afraid. >> we're in bed. my w

the fire in san jose on madden avenue. wow, look at the scene. is the fire completely out?mpletely out right now. they're basically mopping up kind of on a sandby to make sure all the hot spots are taken care of. i'm giving you a bird's eye view of the damage. you can see how it charred up four units from almost top to bottom. when firefighters arrived here at around just before 2:00, they said it was pretty much engulfed on the upper part of the unit and on the roof. this is part of a bigger complex. let me zoom out here a little bit. you can see how this where it's all charred up, it's actually attached to another section of the building. it was a combination of construction because there's a fire wall. the combination of that construction and the way the fire department addressed this, they were able to contain this fire right there and not damage the other iew legitimates. -- the other units. >> what about injuries? >> reporter: there are light injuries. a lot of people who got injured, it was kind of secondary illness from what they had already but only a couple of lig

san jose. it is called mayfair golden manor. it is here near mckey and castle avenue. he city of san jose. when the firefighters arrived as you can see from the home video, you can see the flames and in all, four units were damaged by fire. but others have smoke and water damage. and there were a total of 16 people who lived in the apartment. and the red cross is assisting them. the fire captain says it is far too early to tell what may have caused the fire. but the investigators are already beginning their investigation to determine the nature of this fire. several streets in the area were blocked earlier this morning. parts of mckey road and alexander as the firefighters worked to put that fire out. it was a three alarm fire. and we know that at least nine engine trucks were here. and more than 50 firefighters were on the scene. of course, they were here for several hours. putting that fire out. and then looking for the hot spots. we know that the flames were out by 3:00 a.m. of course, even though the fire is still out, there is much more work to be done. as the fire
