it was transformed by the freeway development of the southern freeway in san jose avenue. -- and san jose area. -- avenue. you can see how the streets brought traffic into the area and created barriers between neighborhoods. san jose avenue and of course started as a train line and was widened over the years into an auto route. as part of the freeway building plan in the 1960's that was an entrance to the larger freeway call the mission freeway which would have extended through the mission district but was halted. we're left today with the san jose expressway which the plan addresses. the third issue is growth and change. while glen park is a pretty built-out area, there are fewer development sites and there's a lot of strong interest among residents about what will happen in those areas. i wish to make it -- they wish to make it compatible with existing area. to the general policy recommendations are to protect and enhance the character of the village, its workability. to resolve the challenges posed by the infrastructure projects. for example, san jose. to prioritize transit and ped

decades ago, was greatly impacted by the bernal cut, the partial insertion of a freeway through san jose avenue. and the neighborhood has been paying the price ever since from the ingestion to local streets being used as cut-throughs, easy access to people committing robberies. they can commit robbery and jump back on. the neighborhood is long overdue for changes to the periphery of the art -- bart station. better intersection at diamond and bosworth. tom lantos was able to secure a land -- and earmark for transit improvement in this area. there has been a lot of frustration in the community about the lack of progress there and i know that part of it was waiting for this plan to be complete and i want to impress not just on planning but on the mta and -- how critically important is to move forward in a tangible way, to start making the transit improvements in this area and to show the community this is not just the plan, that we will implement it and make a trend -- tangible improvements. the other point i want to make, there is not a rezoning of that lot. the possible of a future -- possible f

out to san jose, they just arrived on the scene of this earlier two alarm house fire that we have been following all morning. you can see fire crews on scene at greenleaf lane and yerba buena avenue east of one one. the fire broke out around 3:30 this morning. by 4:30 san jose fire crews contained it. but obviously there are still streets blocked off in this residential neighborhood so avoid the area. no one was home at the time of the fire. no other structures were threatened. but again we have been on the phone with the san jose fire department and they say they will likely be out there for the next couple of hours and blocking roadways. so thank you, chopper 5, for following that breaking news story there in san jose. in the meantime, we are's also following another traffic situation southbound 880 approaching hegenberger by the coliseum, just getting word of an accident. we can't see it in our camera even though we have a camera in that general area. so it sounds like a car actually ran into the guardrail in that area facing sideways and it is blocking one lane of traffic so may be a little sluggish in those southbound lanes. we'll let you know if it causes any further proble

it happened at the creekside inn on west alma avenue in san jose. damian joins us with the very latest. >> reporter: looks like police have just cleared the scene just about five minutes ago. they also towed away a silver car from the parking lot, presumably to process that car for evidence. they had only put up the crime scene tape here at about 3:30 this morning when when drove up. we do know just about 2:00 this morning a bystander flagged down a patrol car saying someone had been shot in front of the creeksidebar and grill here on alma street. officers determined one person had in fact been shot and two others stabbed. they have not identified a suspect in the violence. the restaurant has karaoke six nights a week here and early indications are that's where the confrontation may have begun. >> officers heard gunshots at creek side inn. they responded to the scene and when they arrived there was two people that were injured. later on approximately half-an-hour later we had another person walk in with additional injuries. >> reporter: police say t
