i'd like to bring in patrick hurd and his wife betsy.ia and betsy is currently battling breast cancer and has run in the komen fund-raising races in the past. thank you both for joining me this evening. >> thanks for having us. >> thank you very much. >> pat, what is your reaction to this decision? >> i'm disappointed. i'm saddened. i'm frustrated. and i'm fearful. i'm especially fearful for the women that are not going to be able to have the life-saving screening, the life-saving breast education that these komen funds provide. i am hopeful that our supporters stand up and help us in this so that we can continue to serve the communities here in hampton rhodes. we are especially concerned because the incidents of breast cancer is 1 out of 6 women versus 1 out of 8 nationally. it's a crying need. as the congresswoman said, it's especially a crying need among women of color. so i hope komen changes its mind. >> now this is personal for you, too, because betsy your wife is sitting next to you. tell us what you are going through now with you

i'm not 100%, but betsy, i'll start with you. if employees get free contraception, i don't care who the accounting is, somebody's got to pay for it. and is that not going to be paid for by the catholic hospital or educational institution? >> well, of course, ultimately it comes out of the employee's pocket, as all health care benefits do when they're provided by the employer, but here's the president using that weasel word, free. he told us that preventive care in health plans was free when in fact you don't have a co-pay or deductible because you're forced by law to pay for it up front in your premium. now he's telling us that contraceptives for people who work for catholic institutions will be free. >> why is that? how can contraceptive -- before i get to igor, how can -- how can any of these services be free? is this a constitutional right according to obama? >> absolutely not. it's not free. there is no tooth fairy. if the insurance companies handing that out free, right? in fact, you're going to get less of some other kind o

reported exactly to him, but the real stress comes around the time that scott brown wins that seat betsybecause even though they squeak health care through the obama presidency becomes less of like this forward legislative drive and it becomes something else and at the same time the midterm elections are coming up. that puts tremendous stress on the relationship because emanuel had been the chair of the dccc and his life's mission before becoming chief of staff was getting democrats in congress, especially in these kind of competitive districts, and keeping these people in congress and yet you know in the presidency kind of have a different agenda. you have got to make members of congress take really hard but for example i mention immigration is a sore subject. one of the really sore subjects between them was that the president really wanted to push for immigration reform even though there was no legislation on the table. that was a really big problem for emanuel in the summer of 2010 because he was acutely feeling his vulnerable democratr states. so the relationship did eventually becom
